Cool story worth a listen
Revisado: 05-31-21
The story is cool. Neat to hear about the latest crime syndicate and what they're now going after. Thieves do what thieves do best.
Less cool was the story teller/journalist/podcaster injecting himself into the story. The first few episodes seemed to be more like a personal journal entry of some Aussie guy traveling to America and discovering this story about but heists. This really irritated me.
As the episodes progressed, his putting himself in the story subsides a bit and it did become more about the story itself but never completely. So, it's kind of an investigative journalism podcast, but with a lot of personal injection by the author.
On the whole, the story is a good listen. Except for the "climate change" thingy he throws in at the end. Climate change in a nut heist story?? Come on, man.....I hate that snowflake BS crap.

some are good, others are lame.
Revisado: 05-29-21
I'm always a fan of Mr Caine.
some of the stories are good but others seem to drag on with no end... like they're trying to drag out a kind of boring heist into something more dramatic and sexy.
also, that catchy little tune with the the guitar notes gets old after being used so often. wish they woulda been a bit more creative with the musical score.
like I said, you gotta put in the work to find the good stories.

Mmm- wish I could choose to go back n not listen
Revisado: 05-01-21
the first story was whimsical. but having to sit through and listen to characters experiencing zoom frustrations that I deal with in my own life- i didn't care so much for that.
story was good- I'm always up for a heist plot - but the ending kinda sucked. the story has a good build-up, and I was expecting it to get juicy as we neared the heist, and it could of gone any number of exciting ways, but instead, it just fizzles and dies. I was totally disappointed with the author's choice with the ending. I did really like the concept of the plot- the heist of a very rare postage stamp, by a couple of wise guys.
story two was so slow and painful during the first 10 minutes that I had no choice but to skip it.
story three was fairly good. the female character irritated me as it definitely captured the modern American woman in all her confused and selfish glory. the actor definitely captured the role well!
I did like the quick build-up in suspense as the story progressed. story three was definitely the best of the bunch, in my opinion.

whimsical short story about naive baseball genius
Revisado: 05-01-21
it has a really good ending, let me start by saying that. I liked the final message of the story, but it certainly took a strange way of getting there.
i wasn't a fan of The Babe being portrayed as a naive, dimwitted man in his early years; that's why I gave it four stars.
the performance was very well done.

entertaining AT thru-hike listen
Revisado: 04-30-21
overall, entertaining.
the performance was read by the author, I think that has both pluses and minuses with it.
the book does read like a journal rather than a novel and so one must be prepared for some bumpiness. on the whole, it was an inspiring listen. I did tend to catch myself day dreaming a lot while listening to this book, I don't know if that was just my own ADD😁 and desire for being back country, or if it was because it was difficult to follow some of his details at times.
I did especially enjoy the camaraderie with the various characters. that was really fun!

starts off good but drags on and just fizzles
Revisado: 04-27-21
a decent story, but it did tend to meander... without any clear direction. I struggled after chapter 7 - stayed with it just to see how it would end. I had a hard time staying focused on the characters because my attention waned in many places in the book.
Ending was very stupid, and about the worst choice the writer made. Any other ending would have been far more exciting to listen to than what the author ultimately chose.
Narration was well done. Soothing voice.

Interesting listen on a troubling new mindset
Revisado: 04-14-21
I enjoyed this listen. It definitely improved towards the later chapters. it's a very scholarly book, so be prepared to look up a few words to help understand what the author is saying. I especially enjoyed chapters 6&7 on the ostrich parasitic syndrome and some of the nomological studies performed on islamism and ISIS, respectively. I thought his arguments were eye-opening, to say the least.
I had to laugh hard about some of his Twitter back & forth arguments that he reads for us. I know it helpd prove his thesis of this book, but still- I could not help but think, "where are we headed in society when we actually include Twitter citations in books!"
I personally equate the Twitter-sphere to that of a kindergarten class. In other words, I could care less what anybody says or does on there 'cause they have the intellectual capacity of a 5yr old, on a good day. I deducted one star for this.
I think working in academia today must be extremely challenging.
Overall, a good listen. I probably added about ten new words to my vocabulary! So that's definitely a bonus.

a fun listen for any true adventure masochist. this dude loves pain!
it's not all navy seals stuff. actually more about ultra- marathons and testing ones personal limits and finding ways to push through them.
I Especially liked the live interviews with mr. goggins during the chapters.
also the challenges at the end were fun ways to personally buy into the story and reflect on my own life.
