Historia
This powerful, intensely dramatic book is the definitive account of the Haitian Revolution of 1794-1803. It is the story of the French colony of San Domingo, a place where the brutality of master toward slave was commonplace and ingeniously refined. And it is the story of a barely literate slave named Toussaint L'Ouverture, who led the black people of San Domingo in a successful struggle against successive invasions by overwhelming French, Spanish, and English forces and, in the process, helped form the first independent nation in the Caribbean.

Vital History Little Taught
Revisado: 11-09-19
Toussaint L'Ouverture was a great military leader, the Bonaparte of the West Indies. I bought a hard copy of the book so as to be able to compare the narrative to maps and to be able to check names of the figures where the well-pronounced French names don't stick clearly in the memory of a native Anglophone.

Historia
From the 1930s to '50s, Yiddish radio was popular from coast to coast. By 1985, it was all but forgotten. Then musician and historian Henry Sapoznik discovered a few dozen acetate-coated aluminum discs at a rummage sale.

I Laughed, I Cried, I Kvelled
Revisado: 06-14-19
Here is a new world, a world that I had never known about before I had heard of this project. Here is Yiddish radio in America. Here is Eastern European Jewish New York. Here are stations whose power was so low that they could not be heard outside of the neighborhood. Here is a popular song that became a worldwide hit for many performers that the composer sold for $30. Here are commercials and jingles caught in the consciousness of tens of thousands of people. Here is the Shoah. Here is rabbinic court radio. Here is gut-wrenching drama. Here is avant-garde poetry and socialism, wealth and poverty. Here is a new thing under the sun, yet familiar as the ancient scriptures of most American faiths. Most highly recommended.

Historia
The wait is over. After a two-year investigation, the results of The Mueller Report have been released to the public. Now listen to an audio version of one of the most talked about government documents in history. These are the redacted findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team, which was tasked with investigating Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections, including exploring any links or coordination between President Donald J. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government.

Hard to Speak, An Infuriating & Sad Duty to Hear
Revisado: 05-29-19
Lengthy . Listening increases impact. Campaign uncaring about substantive foreign influence. Legal term reading botched.
