When Barbara Kingsolver and her family move from suburban Arizona to rural Appalachia, they take on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally-produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. More people need to read this book!
Revisado: 02-11-24
I loved this audiobook version (10 years later) as much the first time round with a physical book. She does a wonderful job balancing the mission of raising awareness for our disconnect with nature and where our food comes from, with the need to tell an interesting, compelling story.

Historia
In this vital, eye-opening book, best-selling author Ed Silvoso digs into Scripture, unearthing Jesus' true design for his church - his Ekklesia. He shows how the early church was a radical, countercultural force of people who transformed the hostile, pagan places in which they lived. Here Dr. Silvoso shows how we, in the midst of the social, economic, political, and moral chaos in our world today, can once again become the revolutionary, transformational, life-giving Ekklesia Jesus called us to be.

Some good amongst the bad
Revisado: 08-08-23
His main points, emphasizing the priesthood of all believers were good, along with the anecdotes of what is possible, when people take their calling seriously. But, he failed to give any basis for the concept of baptism and discipling of nations. It seemed to be a very superficial attempt to justify a Christendom point of view.

Historia
Evan MacIan is a tall, dark-haired, blue-eyed Scottish Highlander and a devout Roman Catholic. James Turnbull is a short, red-haired, gray-eyed Lowlander and a devout but naïve atheist. The two meet when MacIan smashes the window of the street office where Turnbull publishes an atheist journal. This act of rage occurs when MacIan sees posted on the shop's window a sheet that blasphemes the Virgin Mary, presumably implying she was an adulteress who gave birth to an illegitimate Jesus.

Profoundly multilayered book
Revisado: 03-28-22
My first attempt at Chesterton fiction, and I was not at all disappointed. I love the way he weaved a compelling story and philosophical arguments together. I saw many fragments of orthodoxy and some of his other essays in parts of the story. The narrator was quite stilted and jarring at normal speed, but at 1.3x the speed, it was quite enjoyable.

Historia
In the last years of the ninth century, King Alfred of Wessex is in failing health, and his heir is an untested youth. The Danes, who have failed so many times to conquer Wessex, smell opportunity.... First comes Harald Bloodhair, a savage warrior leading a Viking horde. But Alfred still has the services of Uhtred, his unwilling warlord, who leads Harald into a trap and, at Farnham in Surrey, inflicts one of the greatest defeats the Vikings were ever to suffer.

Great performance...don’t be put off by the bad reviews
Revisado: 10-16-18
I nearly didn’t carry on with the series because of the bad reviews about the narration. Granted, Jonathan Keeble is a master narrator without peer who did an incredible job bringing the story to life, but If Stephen Perring had narrated from the start, everyone would be praising the excellent narration.
My only criticism is that he should have stuck with the pronunciation of key words from the earlier books...Bebbanburg vs Banborough, Jizela vs Geezila and one or two others.
But otherwise, excellent story and narration!

Historia
The fourth in the best-selling Alfred series from number-one historical novelist, Bernard Cornwell. The year is 885, and England is at peace, divided between the Danish kingdom to the north and Alfred's kingdom of Wessex in the south. But trouble stirs, a dead man has risen and new Vikings have arrived to occupy London. It is a dangerous time, and it falls to Uhtred, half Saxon, half Dane, a man feared and respected the length and breadth of Britain, to expel the Viking raiders and take control of London for Alfred.

Best narration I’ve heard!
Revisado: 08-16-18
Jonathan Keeble’s performance was superb! His ability to create subtle differences in character with his voice is amazing. I was amazed at the difference in his voice between the older and younger Uhtred.
