Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Historia
My mother named me Gabriella, after my grandmother who, coincidentally, didn't want to meet me when I was born because my mother was unmarried, and therefore living in sin. My mom has told me the story many, many, many, times of how, when she confessed to my grandmother that she was pregnant with me, her mother beat her. BEAT HER! She was 25. That story is the basis of my sexual education and has reiterated why it's important to wait until you're married to give it up.

Reading in Spanish was off
Revisado: 01-24-18
The story was fine but I was really distracted by the fact that the reader did not know how to read some of the words in Spanish. Not sure if it was intentional but it was bad.

Historia
Ephram Jennings has never forgotten the beautiful girl with the long braids running through the piney woods of Liberty, their small East Texas town. Young Ruby, “the kind of pretty it hurt to look at,” has suffered beyond imagining, so as soon as she can, she flees suffocating Liberty for the bright pull of 1950s New York. Ruby quickly winds her way into the ripe center of the city - the darkened piano bars and hidden alleyways of the Village - all the while hoping for a glimpse of the red hair and green eyes of her mother.

So sad and yet so beautifully written
Revisado: 02-25-15
If you are looking for a feel good book this is not it. But it is a beautifully written story that draws you in. There is some magic realism that feels almost real. It starts out slow and the reader grew on me after a while and by the end I decided she read it just right.

Historia
Two rambunctious, romantic flameouts. One boring wedding. One heated embrace in a quiet coatroom. This is not exactly the recipe for true love. John and Jane’s lusty encounter at a friend’s wedding isn’t really the beginning of anything with any weight to it; even they know that. When they manage to pull back, it occurs to them that they might start this whole thing over properly. They might try getting to know one another first, through letters.

Pen pals bare all
Revisado: 03-11-13
Imagine sharing your deepest darkest secrets about your past boyfriends to a potential one - who would you talk about? How much would you share? I like the idea that these two characters are trying to get to know each other by divulging the strengths and weakneses about their past romances and in the process revealing a lot more about themselves than they would in a traditional relationship.
I also really enjoyed the two readers they brought a lot of character and emotion to the book. I liked being able to hear a man's voice when the male character spoke and a woman's when a female spoke. So much so that I'm wondering if there are any other books like this.

Historia
What would you do if the gynecologist subbing for your regular doctor turned out to be your old high school crush? Successful psychologist Dr. Jennifer Monroe does what any normal, well-adjusted woman would do. She makes an excuse to send the doctor and nurse from the room, dives into her clothes, and flees! Unfortunately, her running away makes conscientious Dr. Penrose conclude she has some kind of sexual hangup. He's determined to refer her to another doctor for her health's sake. If he can just talk to her, he'll suggest counseling for what he thinks are emotional problems.

What was the rush? Too short/bad reader.
Revisado: 02-20-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Just One Look to be better than the print version?
I should have read it. I did not like he reader. I kept saying slow down!! She read parts so fast I thought she was running out of breath.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Just One Look?
When the man realizes who she is and understands that he is being played.
How could the performance have been better?
If the story had been read much slower it would have been better. What was the rush? I even tried to slow down the speed but it was way to slow. It was very inconsistent and bothered me so much that I couldn't wait to finish the story and move on.The description caught my attention but the characters were not developed. Characters were introduced but not developed - like the doctor he was sitting in for. The history between the two was very vague and I was surprised to hear that he had liked her all along as well. Didn't really make sense. The writer, like the reader, were in rush to finish the story.
Who was the most memorable character of Just One Look and why?
It's hard to say because the book was too short and I don't feel like I got to know the characters at all.
Any additional comments?
I thought the story and the characters could have been developed a little more. I wish there had been a little bit more about what they were like when they were younger. Develop the story about what happened - I didn't understand from the story that he was into her at all when she was younger. It felt like it was truncated and I was disappointed.

Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

Read it before watching the movie!
Revisado: 02-19-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Life of Pi to be better than the print version?
I don't know I only heard the audio version and the reader was perfect.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Life of Pi?
My favorite part of the book was Pi's openness to practice three different religions. His description of each one was priceless. Adults in his life tried to make him choose one. His reasoning "I love god!" - who can argue with that?
Which character – as performed by Jeff Woodman – was your favorite?
Pi was my favorite. He was able to portray a precocious and witty child and later a young man and his journey so well. I loved this character.
If you could rename Life of Pi, what would you call it?
I wouldn't. Now that I finished it I can't think of what else to call it.
Any additional comments?
I had heard it was a good book but was kind of hesitant because the movie previews just showed a boy with a tiger in a boat. I was mildly interested. I had it on my list of books to hear for a month before I finally gave in and I absolutely loved it. A must read. One of my favorites this year. You won't be disappointed.

Inspiring! Must read.
Revisado: 02-19-13
What made the experience of listening to My Beloved World the most enjoyable?
What I love is that we get to know about her life story before the bench. It says a lot about her humility. She is a wonderful storyteller and I'm so glad that she allowed us to get to know her in this way.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved that she talked about real life issues that impact many families. She covered alcoholism, juvenile diabetes, poverty and the myriad of obstacles that many young latinos face along the road to higher education from not knowing how to study to not knowing they system.
What does Rita Moreno bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She brings flavor and sounds a bit like the Justice given their backgrounds so at times I felt like it was the Justice herself reading it.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes. When she gives advice to women about neglecting their partners. It's so true and yet so frustrating to create that balance.
Any additional comments?
Every young latina with aspirations to enter the legal world must read this story.
