Historia
It’s January 1947, and Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt, well-known acting couple, invite six theater people–writers, actors, spouses–to Ten Chimneys, their rural Wisconsin estate, to work on a play. But once there, a blizzard strands them far from town without telephone service, though heat and electricity are still working.

Loved the local references
Revisado: 01-28-25
We chose this book because we live nearby and have visited Ten Chimneys. We loved the story and the development of the characters. It was a bonus to discover that the author was our son's HS English teacher.
My only critique is that the narrator should have researched the pronunciation of the names of the local towns.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Great listen

Tom Hank's gives an artful performance of the novel. His articulation makes the words and images of the story come alive.
The story examines personal verdicts collective memories and the power of forgiveness.
