Historia
The United States of America is no more. Broken into warring territories, its center has become a wasteland DMZ known as the Tropic of Kansas. Though this gaping geographic hole has no clear boundaries, everyone knows it's out there - that once-bountiful part of the heartland, broken by greed and exploitation, where neglect now breeds unrest.

Disturbingly prescient and brilliant
Revisado: 01-10-18
Brown achieves a novel so utterly devastating and realistic, you can’t help but look over you shoulder at your fellow Americans and wonder if they might be the ones who jump in with the Wisconsin militiamen or if they’re part of the resistance. Fast paced with a expertly crafted dystopian world, this is not one to miss.

I actually read a short story by Haruki Murakami in college called "the second bakery attack" and if you want to read something good, check that one out. This book starts out with a lesbian assassin with amazing skills with an Ice-Pick and a strong and silent type editor. As their stories start to unfold you understand that somehow they are going to intersect and build to this epic climax. Well that never happened, or atleast I gave up hope that it would. I did love the voice of aumome but the story dragged and got more confusing, overall BORING

Historia
At last, one of the world’s greatest works of science fiction is available - just as author Stanislaw Lem intended it. To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

A book that mixes that agony of reliving our deepest fears and regrets with the awe inspiring adventure of the universe's great unknowns. I was hooked immediately with great narration and thought provoking premise of a planet that is a living being. It is not just a re-imagined "alien" story, it is a reworking of the entire idea of making contact. To think that there are things out there so far past our understanding that the best way to comprehend is to realize you can't. I gave it 3 stars because there in incredibly boring run ons of history and technical jargon that slowed things down.
