There is a standard at Audible to leave no more than 5 seconds of quiet at the beginning and end of a chapter. As high quality as the rest of this recording and performance are, this detail was neglected - and as a result, every chapter abruptly jumps, without even the space of a breath, to a different one and place and point of view.

If you're new to the Enneagram this is a great place to start. If you're not Christian, it's still a great place to start, the author tells his story, which includes his time as a pastor, but it isn't "preachy" like some Christian Enneagram teachers can get. Part of what makes it a great place to start is why people who aren't new may also enjoy this book - it's legitimately funny. The author narrated it and shows that he's had "stage time" with his timing and intonation, nailing the amusing stories home. I recommend this as a good and entertaining overview of the Enneagram.

The “science” falls far short. Great if you’re looking for someone to sell you expensive treatments from the amen clinics. Not helpful if you want to access a better life. This was recommended to me by a former therapist after she’d been to one of this guy’s workshops - and I had an open mind. Over the next few months she became more and more forceful in her certainty in what I *needed* to do. She stopped being curious about what my actual struggles were and became what I can only describe as dogmatic. I stopped going back and (eventually) sought out another counselor. I do not recommend this approach, and felt personally insulted and deeply misunderstood throughout the listen I gave this when I realized I’d allowed too much time to pass to get a refund. The narrator was fine, but also obviously was bored and checked out sometimes - I don’t blame them.

NB I have not listened to the whole book. I am considering returning the audiobook because the narrator has a nearly robotic cadence and inflection that has not changed in the first hour and a half. I really want to read this book, as I have had it recommended to me more than once. This narrator has convinced me so far that HE isn't very interested in the topic, but I am. It's making it difficult to follow the topic at hand. As I have much more time available to listen than read text, I'll give him another chapter before I decide whether to return it and get the text version of this book.

The author did an excellent job addressing the topic at hand. The authors' performance was better than many authors who choose to narrate their own work, maybe due to her public interpretive background. The only things I took any exception to were nuances of performance, but the book was good enough to more than balance these out!
Thanks!

I was a bit skeptical because of the length, so much shorter than the unabridged novel audio, but the dramatization left nothing out and added flavor and texture to the story that words on a page just don't have. well done yet again BBC.

In a world where everyone has magical powers, what's life for the one who doesn't?

Ian S. Peake's performance with all the character voices was really enjoyable. The story grabbed me and kept me listening, without being too light or too heavy. There were a few minor editing errors in the first release audio, but nothing that disrupted the story overmuch.

The Narrator did a great job, although some of the medical terms weren't pronounced how you'd hear them in the medical office or lab. There's certainly a pile of not-quite-accurate data, some of which could be considered misinformation, if not for the disclaimer at the start of the book. The section where arsenic was regarded as an unbelievable thing to consider safe at any dose was particularly laughable... I wish it weren't so, because the heavy disparagement towards the medical field as a whole made the very real and very potent message inside hard to stomach. The core message about cancer's relationship to emotional/spiritual illness and rejection is very important, I just wish the rest of the book appealed to my rationality as well as my emotions, as both are factors for a balanced view, a balanced human system, and balanced decisions. Also, many plugs for other products and where you can buy them - so much for the medical conspiracy being the only ones out to make a profit off of trying to help!
Not an authority, but an interesting, compelling perspective.
