An excellent blend of humor and action.

Chaney and Maggert weave another entertaining tale that seamlessly twists from one dilemma to the next. Jeffrey Kafer's narration is masterful, bringing the characters to life. How he keeps the voices consistent after thirteen books is a mystery to me. The book felt just a tiny bit slow in the middle, but picked back up and had me wanting more at the end.

Action, adventure, humor, and an interesting plot!

what if everything you thought you knew about the universe was turned on it's ear?
Van Tudor is a likeable hero thrust into a situation he can scarcely believe, but manages to get through it with the help of a few friends.
An entertaining story with just the right mix of action and humor, and very well narrated! I immediately had to buy the next book.

Forget space opera, it's a space western!

I missed out on Firefly when it first came out, but after listening to Big Damn Hero I believe I'm going to have to go back and binge watch the series.
this was one of the best narrated audiobooks I have ever listened to. The narrator worked in Mandarin curses and exclamations without a hiccup, and delivered the story in an entertaining tongue in cheek manner. I would have given him six stars if I could have.
The story itself is also extremely good with entertaining character arcs and solid action throughout.

As this series has gone on, it's gotten filthier and raunchier. Every character with any semblance of honor dies. Three books in and there hasn't been a positive outcome yet. I'm going to give book for a try, but the payoff better be huge.

Overall an uplifting story

A survivalists' handbook disguised as a post collapse fictional story. I greatly appreciated the depictions of devout faith interspersed through the book, as well as the well thought out preparedness tips. As an Idaho transplant myself I enjoyed the references to familiar locales and businesses. At times the narrator was unfamiliar with local pronunciation of town names derived from Indian names, but he can be forgiven for saying things as they are spelled.
Occasionally there are too many details of equipment and descriptions of procedures that are just too complete for strictly entertainment reading. But if I ever find myself in a collapsed United States (and it certainly could happen as he described) i would be glad for the textbook-esque sections.
Overall, highly recommended. Minor emergencies happen all the time. This enjoyable story will help us examine how well prepared we each are.
