Stillted and boring
Revisado: 04-28-25
Voice actor was fine, seemed to do OK with the Japanese words.
But the overall story was just ….. not interesting.
Don’t get me wrong. The premise was interesting. Even the main character had the potential to be interesting.
But the way it all came together was just tiresome and boring .
Not my cup of tea , quit about 60% of the way through.

He has the ability to modify any item he owns; to upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. At least, that was until Felix leveraged a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give himself a great deal of points. Investing in Super Heroes and Super Villains and owning them. Using them, Felix built up an empire: an organization by the name of Legion.

Author is Starting to forget the purpose of this side of the series
Revisado: 08-02-24
The Felix side of the story is supposed to be slightly suggestive, but not raunchy or wank bait material. The other half of the story with Vince Campbell is the pure harem spicy time half.
That other half is starting to leak into this side of the universe and distract from the superhero, world using and adventure themes.
The author has a number of *very* spicy book series, but the Felix series was a place for those who did not want explicit sexual content. Please don’t make this just a tamer version of Vince. Stick to what makes it different from Vince.

The computer narration is amazing in that it is able to add intonation in some places.
The computer narration is also amazingly bad in that it puts the wrong intonation in many places. It also was baffled by things that humans would find obvious. Example: 1965 = one thousand nine hundred and sixty five.
Overall, the computer narration is about the equivalent to a totally new narrator who doesn’t really understand the process, it’s not completely unusable, but given the number of folks who are looking to break into the industry, and work for low rates, it is unnecessary.
The stories standard narrative from JDY, not highly polished, but very enjoyable in a folksy down-to-earth kind of way.

Historia
Prince Roger MacClintock, Tertiary Heir to the Throne of Man, was a spoiled rotten, arrogant, whiny, thoroughly useless young pain in the butt. But that was before an assassination attempt marooned the Royal Brat and his bodyguards on the planet Marduk, and before they had to march half way around the entire planet, through 120-degree heat and five-hour rainstorms in jungles full of damnbeasts, capetoads, killerpillars, and atul-grak, not to mention hostile peoples, to make their way back to port.

A powerful book. Buy it.
Revisado: 11-22-23
First, a standing ovation for the narrator. There are many good narrator’s, a smaller number of great narrator’s, and small group of exceptional narrators who’s performance makes us realize what heights can be achieved. This narrator is one of the exceptional ones.
Second, the story.
The canvas is of the story is vast. We see things from the viewpoint of a former mardukan ditch digger turned solder, a former spoiled prince turned hardened combat veteran, we see things from the view of “civilized” mardukans with a mechanical civilization, and from semi-civilized aliens who are more feudal lords than modern “civilized”.
We get a good enemy with a just cause for war (planed, calculated entrapment and betrayal) and a just cause for defense (not our betrayal, we just stood by and watched/profited). There are no innocent parties, even Roger and his crew have ulterior motives that drive them, but we can find something admirable in nearly every group.
In terms of storytelling I admire the author ability to write to a modified marine Moto; build the story full of interesting characters, meet and bond with them at a multitude of levels, kill them. :-)
The very real danger to every character in this book leaves you wondering if at some point the author won’t kill even the prince and make the rest of the story about Palmers journey to bring his remains back to the empress. Not saying that’s what happens, but ……
This is my 3rd time reading/listening to the book, and it was worth buying the audiobook even though I own the DRM free version of the ebook direct from the publisher.
My only regret is that they have not written book 5 as of this date.

A decent story, just not what the reviews had me expecting.
Revisado: 10-14-23
A classic book, has all of the authors normal skill in in world building, but also has the hints of his normal works perversions, a bit to much family care, young women or at leas women who sound young doing adult things.
Overall an ok book, not the authors best.
The narrator did a great job, and I would be happy to listen to more by her.

Ends in a cliffhanger
Revisado: 08-23-23
This is more like project elf home than a standard book. it flips between various characters to weave a larger story together.
Overall, I like the story progression, but wish it had not been left on a cliffhanger.

Historia
Even though they attend a school of gifted students in New York City, child geniuses Louise Mayer and her twin sister Jillian have always felt alone in the world, isolated by their brilliance. Shortly before their ninth birthday, they make an amazing discovery. They're not alone. Their real mother was astronaut Esme Shenske and their father was the famous inventor, Leonardo Dufae. They have an older sister, Alexander, living on the planet of Elfhome, and four siblings still in cryogenic storage at the fertility center.

Revisado: 08-06-23
This was a riot. The narrator is great.
<Redacted>’s catch phrase of “nom-nom-nom” cracks me up every time.
The twins are fun, the peril is real.
The tie-in too the first books is well done.
I cackled, er laughed, out loud numerous times through this book.
Looking forward to reading/listening to the next book.

A solid story, distracted by unnecessary fascination with sex
Revisado: 07-30-23
The base story is good, the characters likable, the environment interesting, the villains compelling.
But. For some reason, the author needs to keep sidetracking us with polyamorous sexual relationships, sexual relations between people of questionable mental maturity, and oh yeah let’s throw in sex with animals. Don’t forget to have sex in front of the kids to, that should make it edgy.
Most of that could’ve been handled with vague statements to establish the big bad IS the big bad, cut the hero’s gratuitous sex, and stop pretending that in any environment for any species at any time in all of history, males have been happy to share a female.
This book is written a long time ago, so this will have no impact on future outcomes, but I am disappointed the author took what could’ve been an exciting family friendly adventure, and turned it into something with a bunch of smut, that I have to fast forward through.

Another good story by Mackey Chandler
Revisado: 03-13-23
Good story.
This book does a better job than previous one’s of ending the book on at a natural point in the story vs a cliffhanger.
The story remains engaging with interesting activities and fun new characters.
The authors use of “earth, humans” versus “space humans and the related cultures” does a good job of capturing the fight between centralist governments and freedom minded individuals.
The authors exploration of how society will change when lives get longer is interesting.
Watching Lee’s mannerisms, actions and interactions change over the series due to gaining experience is fun.
Keep making more books.
