Historia
The Scottish-born son of a failed weaver and a mother who supported the family by binding shoes, Andrew Carnegie was the embodiment of the American dream. In his rise from a job as a bobbin boy in a cotton factory to being the richest man in the world, he was single-minded, relentless and a major player in some of the most violent and notorious labor strikes of the time. The prototype of today's billionaire, he was a visionary in the way he earned his money and in the way he gave it away.

A biography by someone who dislikes his subject
Revisado: 08-27-24
I wish the author spent a lot less time on labor relations and a lot more time discussing technology. Sometimes I felt like listening to a book from the Soviet Union.

Revisado: 03-01-24
One thing is certainly more dangerous than AI is Mustafa and his backers. It was very sad to listen to their hopes and dreams.

Good basic story, bad political views.
Revisado: 10-15-22
Isaacson added his leftist views here and there and towards the end he dedicated a whole section to it.
How evil free choice is. Lots of mentions how terrible it would be if so many people had blue eyes. Not a single discussion regarding a dictatorship creating genetically modified citizens for the greater good. He mentions books discussing it but he doesn't as a counter point.

Historia
From the inimitable bestselling author Thomas Cahill, another popular history - this one focusing on how the innovations of the Renaissance and the Reformation changed the Western world. A truly revolutionary audiobook. In Volume VI of his acclaimed Hinges of History series, Thomas Cahill guides us through the thrilling period of the Renaissance and the Reformation (the late fourteenth to the early seventeenth century), so full of innovation and cultural change that the Western world would not experience its like again until the twentieth century.

I wish there was a lot less of the author added.
Revisado: 05-25-21
I found several interesting historical analysis sprinkled here and there. It could be more organized and a lot less of the author's personal point of view added. It is especially advisable if one lives in Manhattan in the 21st century.

Historia
Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

Historia
Astrophysicist and best-selling author Mario Livio draws on his own scientific expertise to provide captivating insights into how Galileo reached his bold new conclusions about the cosmos and the laws of nature. A freethinker who followed the evidence wherever it led him, Galileo was one of the most significant figures behind the scientific revolution. He believed that every educated person should know science as well as literature, and insisted on reaching the widest audience possible, publishing his books in Italian rather than Latin.

Global warming propaganda piece.
Revisado: 12-09-20
First I thought it was just easier to publish with the PC stuff added. By the end it looked like the book was written with the purpose of using it for propaganda. It seems to try to target religious people primarily.
Poor Galileo is used again by the church of global warming. No freedom should be allowed to discuss this topic the author claims. If you question anything we say you should be persecuted as a heretic.

Historia
In 1177 B.C., marauding groups known only as the "Sea Peoples" invaded Egypt. The pharaoh’s army and navy managed to defeat them, but the victory so weakened Egypt that it soon slid into decline, as did most of the surrounding civilizations. After centuries of brilliance, the civilized world of the Bronze Age came to an abrupt and cataclysmic end. Kingdoms fell like dominoes over the course of just a few decades. No more Minoans or Mycenaeans. No more Trojans, Hittites, or Babylonians.

inspirational , not sure how practical
Revisado: 02-21-19
Inspired me to look at some aspects of my work life differently. Possibly gave me a more cohesive way to look at how I can improve my relationship to earning a living. It is light providing a practical action plan.
