Historia
Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life. But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday.

Fascinating Story - A little Disjointed Too
Revisado: 03-12-13
I am a big Neil Gaiman fan, so to find American Gods out in a full cast production was irresistible. But I found the narration a bit disappointing. It was, at times, hard to follow the chapters. The characters came and went so quickly it was hard to form any connection. And although the actors were clearly talented, I had a sense that a single reader could have been more effective.
Altogether an interesting story. Not the best narration, but not the worst either.

Historia
Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

Epic Story!
Revisado: 01-26-13
Wow! I found this book during a routine search of the Audible website. It was one of those great finds you stumble upon from time to time. The story was incredibly rich and detailed, the characters compelling (even if they weren't always likeable), and the plot pulls you in. Humphrey Bower is a top narrator--he really brings the characters to life. At the end of the book, I immediately downloaded Book 2.

Wonderful audio book!
Revisado: 08-15-10
This is my second Carl Hiaasen audible book--the first was Skinny Dip. Star Island is first and foremost hysterically funny! I have found myself laughing out loud as I walk and listen to this book. I have thoroughly enjoyed Stephen Hoye's narration of this book. Although there are definitely some similar fixtures in both Skinny Dip and Star Island--Star Island is still a very unique and enjoyable book. I highly recommend this recording!

"The city of San Francisco is being stalked by a huge shaved vampyre cat named Chet, and only I, Abby Normal, emergency backup mistress of the Greater Bay Area night, and my manga-haired love monkey, Foo Dog, stand between the ravenous monster and a bloody massacre of the general public. Whoa. And this is a love story? Yup."

Spectacular Listen!
Revisado: 04-09-10
Christopher Moore's story is hysterically funny and entertaining from beginning to end. Susan Bennett is a fantastic narrator. The combination is an amazing audio book. I can only hope there are more stories to come featuring these characters. Three simply aren't enough!

Charming Story, Flawed Delivery
Revisado: 10-29-06
This is an engaging Edwardian story. Unfortunately, the main narrator is quite off the mark. She engages accents for the lead characters that appear devoid of any rhyme or reason. For example, only one of the women in the story is presented with a British accent, although all are clearly very English. So, as enjoyable a story as it is, be prepared, the presentation grates.
There is also some racist descriptions within the storyline, which are offputting. Probably less controversial in context of the period writing, however, still jarring in today's world.

A Must Listen!
Revisado: 07-31-04
I had the privilege to attend the Democratic National Convention--and was seated on the podium directly behind Sharpton during his speech. Sharpton's speech was the most inspriring and exciting of all four days of what was a fantastic convention. Listening to this is guaranteed to make you think, maybe make you want to shout too, and will definitely make you want to get involved in voting rights. Listen to this and share it with everyone you know!
