Historia
In most cases, when a church needs a lawyer, it hires a lawyer. When it needs a plumber, it hires a plumber. But when it comes to making business decisions, most churches convene well-meaning but often inexperienced volunteers to form a committee, then they take a month and vote on the color to paint a door in the nursery. Conducting business this way kills the vision and drains the passion out of right-brained, creative, relational pastors and ministry leaders.

Business focused church leadership
Revisado: 06-28-18
this book was exactly what I was looking for. It was a book about managing the business of the church. this book lays out a framework for addressing and managing key issues that church is faced with. I found it to be very informative and plan to use many of the recommendations with my own congregation immediately. I encourage and recommend any church administrator, Church business pastor, church executive Pastor, or anyone involved in a Ministry to take a look at this book to improve the way that they go about doing church activities.

Historia
Mike Lofgren is back with a book perfectly pitched for the frenzied circus of the primaries. His argument this time is that for all of the backstabbing and money grubbing of the campaign season, the politicians we elect have as little ability to shift policy as Communist party apparatchiks. Welcome to Mike Lofgren's Washington, DC - a This Town where the political theater that is endlessly tweeted and blogged about has nothing to do with actual decision making.

Decent overview, very well written
Revisado: 06-21-18
I really enjoyed that Mr. Lofgren put together a framework for what the deep state is, and how it operates. I think he lays out concepts that most people who've studied politics understand in a easy to follow manner. Things like the military industrial complex, campaign finance issues, NSA overstepping of privacy. There was no ground breaking insight gleaned, and mostly seemed like his opinion to the topics. I enjoyed reading his perspective and definitely was reminded how costly constant war is to the common tax payer. I guess I was expecting to learn more about the behind the scenes, shadow government, that is not visible or discussed which I felt was not very present in this book. Worth a listen or read, though, and would recommend to anyone interested. It's so well written and he has great use of metaphors.

Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Good beg/end - middle lost me
Revisado: 07-14-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I didn't understand the story during the bulk of the middle. It really lost me. It started out so strong, and the ending was very good. I just lost interest for the bulk of the middle, to the point where I wanted to stop listening to it. Perhaps I need to go back to re-listen, but it was tough.
What about Michael York’s performance did you like?
He's one of the best. Love Michael York in this and other works.
Was Brave New World worth the listening time?
Idk...I'm glad to have listened to say that I have. But, was not a favorite and probably will not listen again.

Written for church people, not average man
Revisado: 12-22-15
I am an assistant pastor and thought this book was not good. I was shocked at the thoughts of the authors about women. I think this sort of writing will reach people who already know it's wrong to lust after women but I do not think it will be successful with non churched men. it's really vanilla and just too...idk, white. I need something different to approach the issue of teaching this subject.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Historia
In the heart of America, a metropolis is quietly destroying itself. Detroit, once the richest city in the nation, is now its poorest. Once the vanguard of America’s machine age - mass production, automobiles, and blue-collar jobs - Detroit is now America’s capital for unemployment, illiteracy, foreclosure, and dropouts. With the steel-eyed reportage that has become his trademark and the righteous indignation that only a native son can possess, journalist Charlie LeDuff sets out to uncover what has brought low this once-vibrant city, his city.

Excellent story and recent history of Detroit
Revisado: 09-01-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Detroit to be better than the print version?
I think the narrator does an outstanding job of getting the voice of Charlie LeDuff out of the writing. For that reason, I thought it was a good version compared to the written.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character, Charlie, because he becomes like a friend - whether you like him or not, he seams like a real person.
Which character – as performed by Eric Martin – was your favorite?
Same as above
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Losers"
Any additional comments?
If you're looking for a great story about a guy who was accomplished around the world, then makes his way back to his hometown of Detroit - you'll love this story. Also, if you're looking for a recent historical account of Detroit and explanation of how things got the way they are or an explanation of how things are now in the city - this is your book. Worth the buy.
