Gripping story. The bookend to London's other masterpiece: The Call of The Wild. Narrator born to do this role. Five stars.

For many people, Beethoven is the greatest composer who ever lived. In this portrait-in-sound, actors' readings combine with his music to reveal a titanic personality, vulnerable and belligerent, comic and tragic, and above all, heroic.

Historia
Like lots of college grads, Daniel Seddiqui was having a hard time finding a job. But despite more than 40 rejections, he knew opportunities had to exist. So he set out on an extraordinary quest: 50 jobs in 50 states in 50 weeks. And not just any jobs; he chose professions that reflected the culture and economy of each state, working as everything from a cheesemaker in Wisconsin, a border patrol agent in Arizona, and a meatpacker in Kansas to a lobsterman in Maine, a surfing instructor in Hawaii, and more.

A non-fiction classic in the making.

This book reminded me of the apocryphal Native American saying, if you want to understand someone, you must walk a mile in their moccasins... Recommended reading.

Magnificent narration. Gripping tale.
Revisado: 07-20-13
What did you love best about The Call of the Wild?
The narrator Mike Boris brings new vigor and emotional depth to this classic tale. I only wish he would be asked to read more of the Jack London catalogue. For some odd reason, I had postponed reading this short book over five decades. Had I but known what a truly moving psychological journey it would take me on ~ an episodic narrative packed with a host of interesting characters, both canine and human ~ I would have devoured this story long ago. Five stars all the way.
Any additional comments?
Pitch perfect narration, His work truly enhanced an already masterful tale. I will keep my eyes opened for the name Mike Boris in the future.

Best-selling author and human guinea pig A. J. Jacobs puts his life to the test and reports on the surprising and entertaining results. He goes undercover as a woman, lives by George Washington’s moral code, and impersonates a movie star. He practices "radical honesty", brushes his teeth with the world’s most rational toothpaste, and outsources every part of his life to India—including reading bedtime stories to his kids.

If James Thurber and Dorothy Parker had hooked up
Revisado: 05-17-11
The result would be A. J. Jacobs. Definitely the funniest man in the room. His earlier book, The Know-It-All, hit such a high water mark for wit and wisdom that I feared that book's level of sassy insightfulness would be hard to surpass. His latest entry, My Life As An Experiment, nevertheless, floods the mind with wave upon wave of comic brilliance. Behind all the hilarity, however, there are some 'deep thoughts' ~ but I imagine Jacobs would be the last to admit it. Five-star listen.
