I think some of the advice is helpful but much of it seems very centered around the idea that anyone struggling to par down on the things they own has a comparison problem. Comparison to what others have and how they’re perceived. I don’t own many books to look smart to others. I don’t browse social media to get likes and followers; I do it to micro-learn. The author also seems to have an unhealthy fixation on Steve Jobs as he mentions him multiple times in almost every chapter. Additionally, going through a pickup service and auction service to get rid of items means paying people to get money from an item’s discarding. It makes no sense. While I’m sure the differences between Japanese and American cultures and economic systems plays heavily into the way the book was written, it’s still a major factor. I believe the book has value but I will not be inclined to re-read it in another format, reference it, or give it a second listen.

I actually found more value from this title the further in I got, which isn’t to say the first half isn’t valuable, simply that I already knew some things. For those that don’t, this portion is just as important. Clear’s breakdown of making habits not only possible but fixated is built into the word choice he uses to convey these concepts. Make it easier, make it satisfying, make it unsatisfying. All these terms make a very broad topic easier to grasp. Would recommend to anyone. Would even recommend getting a physical copy and annotating it while listening to the audiobook version.

DNF. Lily does a great job on delivery and reading, which as the author, that makes sense. She has the edge on that. However, the book’s content is basic adult responsibility coupled with hustle-hustle-hustle mentality. She goes on about what she did, awards, meeting famous people, and her feelings but at no time explains what mindset brought her to those accomplishments nor how she got to them. It’s vague and self-congratulatory. There’s nothing to the book about how to BE a “Bawse”, just that she believes she is one because she hustled herself into exhaustion that also included success. Check out actual self-development like Ryan Holiday’s “The Obstacle Is The Way”. At least it will give your mind food for thought and a way to approach life with an outlook that can, in fact, make things run more smoothly.

The author wrote it with very easy flow for communication and getting the point across. Some ideas were good but the book isn’t just for those that find themselves in a loop but for those that are totally clueless they even are in a loop. Though, I wish I’d borrowed this from a library, rather than fully purchase it.
