Outstanding
Revisado: 06-08-22
Exceptional in everyday. An unforgettable heroine. A frank and realistic exploration of a young woman determined to protect the community she loves and the loved ones she mourns. The use of the indigenous language is powerful.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

Funny, scary, and touching true stories from Yellowstone wildlife photographers, rangers, guides, and trackers who've accidentally come face-to-face with grizzly bears and bison, who've camped out in -70 degree temperatures, and much more. From a Wall Street Journal best-selling author and wildlife photographer whose award-wining Yellowstone imagery is displayed in the Smithsonian.

Ready For Your Roadtrip

Delightfully entertaining. Great for a roadtrip and it is a great reminder that our National Parks are still wild places. Great stories and I enjoyed the narration as well.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Possible Spoiler
Revisado: 09-19-16
Excellent production.
I went into this book with no prior knowledge of the book other than it was an excellent SciFi Literary Thriller.
And it really is.
The narrator, Finty Williams, was outstanding. The story moved along and for the most part avoided being derivative or overfilled with sterotypical chacters that often populate this genre.
Still, it had its share of Michael Crighton moments and the "Red Shirts" and "Crazed Scientists" lined up for duty but that said, I was hooked before I realized what I was actually listening to.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Two things I generally avoid: Children being abused and tortured and zombies.
So imagine my surprise...
Yep...zombies, lots and lots and then some more zombies. Then...children who are abused, mistreated, tortured
and then... more zombies
So here is my verdict. Had I realized this was a Zombie Apocalypse novel I would have avoided it like the zombie producing plague.
Had I realized how many children and with what frequency child abuse and torture would be featured I would not have picked this book.
And I would have missed a really terrific story.
So you have been forewarned
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Historia
Caren Gray manages Belle Vie, a sprawling antebellum plantation that sits between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where the past and the present coexist uneasily. The estate's owners have turned the place into an eerie tourist attraction, complete with full-dress re-enactments and carefully restored slave quarters. Outside the gates, a corporation with ambitious plans has been busy snapping up land from struggling families who have been growing sugar cane for generations, and now replacing local employees with illegal laborers. Tensions mount when the body of a female migrant worker is found in a shallow grave on the edge of the property.

Compelling and Fresh
Revisado: 01-02-13
Would you listen to The Cutting Season again? Why?
I would listen again and have recommended the book to friends. This is a fresh take on the mystery. You are never quite sure where you are being lead. Love the protagonist - very real, not a cookie cutter hero by any means.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Oh my yes, it also convinced me to take the long way home.
