Historia
Spencer Collins thinks his life at Harvard will be all about basketball and pre-med. The friends he’s made when he hits the storied ivy-clad campus from a very different life in urban Chicago are a happy bonus. But Spencer is about to be introduced to the most mysterious inner sanctum of the inner sanctum: to his surprise, he’s in the running to be “punched” for one of Harvard’s elite final clubs. As Spencer is considered for membership for the Delphic Club, he’s plunged not only into the secret world of male privilege, but also a century-old club mystery.

i have m no idea how this ended up in my library
Revisado: 01-26-25
I don't know how this was added to my library, and would like my selection back, but it's the hard to track when it was added, and it's not unbearable. Skull and Bones type stuff, and the banality of evil...yawn. Many are called, few are chosen, and we suffer these vain fools delighted to join the clubs that would have them as members. Life and death at stake too. Confederacy of High IQ dunces.

Historia
This is the book the CIA does not want you to read. For the last 60 years, the CIA has maintained a formidable reputation in spite of its terrible record, never disclosing its blunders to the American public. It spun its own truth to the nation while reality lay buried in classified archives. Now, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Tim Weiner offers a stunning indictment of the CIA, a deeply flawed organization that has never deserved America's confidence.

Very Interesting History of CIA's Track Record
Revisado: 07-27-23
Suggests CIA has always been the slowest horse at the track, as it catalogues CIA's astonishingly long long list of failures.
More vigorous pursuit of Open source Intelligence by qualified people seems a better solution to any Intel gap than the author's $2B CIA Berlitz finishing school for future case officers to learn to do what hasn't been working for decades- bribe, compromise, kill (pick 2).
Maybe the trauma based model was always broken. So many failed missions seem to suggest it.
Maybe just paying fair market prices for a given (Congo) nation's natural resources and these massive engineering marvels is cheaper.

Historia
Long before the American Revolution and the Declaration of the Rights of Man, a motley crew of sailors, slaves, pirates, laborers, market women, and indentured servants had ideas about freedom and equality that would forever change history. The Many Headed-Hydra recounts their stories in a sweeping history of the role of the dispossessed in the making of the modern world.

Prof lays bare many of the elements of demoralizing American decline. Not since the best seller "Looking Out for Number One" will you see what has made America less great. Don't wait for a fascistic buffoon like Hitler to trap us into a mass formation psychology spiral before you can see that cascading fall.

I do not agree with some of it, ie, "Time Out"
Revisado: 04-16-21
Time out is over-- it's time out for time out, as per compelling research. It's alienating, and maddening like solitary confinement.
And overall the book had more the tone of a politician message, than an information source. I preferred Adele Faber's books, which requires passive inquiry and let's children vent when they are off track. or "Handsinhand parenting" online.

Historia
This brilliantly readable work of history tells the bizarre story of the Ottoman Empire as seen through the lives of its extravagant and tyrannical sultans. With their absolute power, their love of pomp, and their overwhelming venality and corruption, rarely has a great empire been ruled by such grotesque and awesome figures. For 400 years, they fought wars, terrorized their subjects, made Turkey into a great empire, and then allowed her to decline into ostentatious and impotent decay.

Historia
At the dawn of the 21st century, dizzying scientific and technological advancements, interconnected globalized economies, and even the so-called New Atheists have done nothing to change one thing: our world remains furiously religious. For good and for evil, religion is the single greatest influence in the world. In God Is Not One, Prothero provides listeners with much-needed content about each of the eight great world religions.

Revisado: 06-13-20
And the creativity of man (and the lack thereof when he gets to the French enlightenment and all the utterly convinced atheists pounding tables with their shoes all over the world these days).
Remember that comparative religion course you always wanted to take as an undergraduate but never got around to because you had so many other core curriculum requirements?
This is it, only no exams.
I've listened to this book 4 times already. it's my favorite bedtime story, set timer to 30 minutes.

An ounce of prevention worth tons of cures
Revisado: 01-26-20
Aging is a disease.
Radical idea or the most rational approach to healing since "do no harm". The problem with "do no harm" is that while it covers acts in furtherance of a harm well enough to keep any doctor safe from slippery tort lawyers, it does not address omissions.
Addresses the question: "Can something be done?"
There appears to be mounting and accelerating evidence that we can all do and be much much better.
