Historia
The American Slave Coast tells the horrific story of how the slavery business in the United States made the reproductive labor of "breeding women" essential to the expansion of the nation. The book shows how slaves' children, and their children's children, were human savings accounts that were the basis of money and credit. This was so deeply embedded in the economy of the slave states that it could be decommissioned only by emancipation, achieved through the bloodiest war in the history of the United States.

Incredibly researched, and information-packed book
Revisado: 01-31-20
Containing an incredible amount of valuable information, this book has taught me so much about aspects of slavery of which I had no idea. It is highly recommended.
However, the narration is so bad that it is painful to hear. With mispronunciations, terrible tonality, and slurring of some words, it's frustrating to try to complete. Thirty hours of painful listening proved unbearable. I will buy the book.

Historia
Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

Logos!
Revisado: 10-18-19
Mr. Gallagher does a wonderful job of presenting a dynamic overview of the Civil War, but since this is presented as a "course", I lost confidence in the objectivity and accuracy of the information due to some of his rhetorical choices. Especially when he states that slave masters would "go down to the slave quarters and "father" children". They rapped enslaved women, and created more slaves -- they didn't father children!
The far-reaching implications of such statements negates the overall political picture, in that slave owners were creating more domestic slaves through their brutal acts, while southern politicians were negotiating, and using cessation of the international slave trade as leverage. As a woman, if find this an egregious misstatement of fact, and an extremely misleading statement of intent, both credibly and historically. Thus, I am skeptical about how other facts are presented, particularly in his chapters on women.

Excellent!
Revisado: 06-06-19
What a refreshing perspective! Mrs. Obama presents many valuable life lessons, and provides a look into her heart, and mind, in this revealing story. It's so nice to hear a woman's view of how to be successful, fulfilled, and self-grounded in her life journey. Especially since this woman's life journey is so amazing!
