Historia
Amanda Lindhout reads her spectacularly dramatic memoir of a woman whose curiosity about the world led her from rural Canada to imperiled and dangerous countries on every continent, and then into 15 months of harrowing captivity in Somalia - a story of courage, resilience, and extraordinary grace. In August 2008, she traveled to Mogadishu, Somalia - "the most dangerous place on Earth." On her fourth day in the country, she and her photojournalist companion were abducted.

Any additional comments?
I'm glad I listened to this book. At first the narration seemed a little flat, but by the end the dispassionate delivery seemed to mirror the mental disconnection the author herself must have created in order to survive the experience.

Historia
The Great Railway Bazaar is Paul Theroux's account of his epic journey by rail through Asia. Filled with evocative names of legendary train routes - the Direct-Orient Express, the Khyber Pass Local, the Delhi Mail from Jaipur, the Golden Arrow to Kuala Lumpur, the Hikari Super Express to Kyoto, and the Trans-Siberian Express - it describes the many places, cultures, sights and sounds he experienced and the fascinating people he met.

One of my favorite audio books so far.

Any additional comments?
Sharp observations and dry wit combined with absolutely beautiful writing about far away places. I want to read more by Paul Theroux. And Frank Muller's outstanding voice acting brought this book to life. His voice seemed perfectly suited for the material, I felt like the author himself was there. And his wide range of accents was astonishing.

Just could not keep listening.
Revisado: 02-11-16
What was most disappointing about Elena Ferrante’s story?
I finally gave up after 5 hours. I'd expected a more Naples-based story, but instead it was a endless monologue about a young woman's obsession with her best friend. The emotions expressed by the characters were inexplicable to me. I just couldn't understand their motivations or reactions. The narrator is excellent, though. She's why I lasted five hours.
What does Hillary Huber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Beautiful narration style. A performance, really, rather than just a reading. But not at all intrusive.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

What would have made Outlander better?
I tried this book based on the reviews, but eventually gave up after yet another comment about mens' "copper colored curls". The main character was just too silly and boy crazy for me. I know this book is beloved by many, I don't mean to offend. But in my opinion, the movie "Hot Tub Time Machine" provided a more nuanced and intelligent exploration of the implications of time travel than this book. Interesting concept and setting. One-dimensional main character.

Excellent in every way. Thought provoking.

Would you listen to Past Imperfect again? Why?
The observations and emotional reactions in this book were so unusually perceptive I found myself thinking about them for a long time afterwards. In very few words Julian Fellowes was able to create fully-realized personalities so clearly in my mind's eye. His insights about women were especially striking, I'm surprised that a man could be capable of seeing so much. On a basic level, this book is about meeting up with friends again after many years. Each time the narrator began privately mused about the differences between the young friend he remembered and the old friend standing in front of him, I braced myself for cruelty. But instead the assessments were considerate and thought provoking. It actually made me feel better about getting older somehow.

Historia
Castles in the Air is a beautifully written, autobiographical story of rescuing an ancient mansion. Gwydir Castle was inhabited by ravers and rats until Judy Corbett and her husband Peter Welford found and acquired this 500-year-old house mouldering in the foothills of Snowdonia. Despite the toads, strange smells and squatters, they decided to mortgage themselves to the hilt to bring the castle back to life.

What did you love best about Castles in the Air?
I am about to finish this book, and am tempted to start right back at the beginning again. If you've ever dreamed of restoring a ruinous old manor house and making it your home, this is the book for you. A true story, warts and all, written in a strong voice with intelligent dry wit. Highly recommend.
