Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

Not the flauntless, invincible army
Revisado: 01-26-22
First, I like the narrator in this genre. I believe he also did "we were soldiers" which was outstanding.
Second, it portrays what I think to be a more realistic image of the continental army, which isn't the glorious, blue coated angelic force portrayed by Hollywood or school books.
It shows a side of Washington and the congress that is really contrary to the romanticized legends taught me as a child. The documented, true ways in which the war was enacted upon by the British and other Europeans are well researched here.
Reality.... Washington was neither a Wellington or a Patton, Hancock nor a Jackson. The British command was not wholly inhumane (anymore than the Americans or loyalists), and I wish more were aware of the manner in which they issued orders.
Finally, I wanted to hear more about Baron Van Steuben, as he was almost, if not solely responsible for the regulars sufficient enough to be conventional in their format.
Probably will listen again, will recommend.

Historia
The Roman Republic is one of the most breathtaking civilizations in world history. Between roughly 500 BCE to the turn of the millennium, a modest city-state developed an innovative system of government and expanded into far-flung territories across Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. This powerful civilization inspired America's founding fathers, gifted us a blueprint for amazing engineering innovations, left a vital trove of myths, and has inspired the human imagination for 2,000 years.

Couldn't put it down!
Revisado: 10-02-20
Absolutely addictive. The books authorship was a no b.s., gripping work that made me actually enjoy and even look forward to my commutes. Coupled with the outstanding narrator, it was just like being encapsulated by a TV program! Definitely recommend this as I listened to it for free through audible and liked it so much I actually ended up buying it.

Historia
In November 1965, some 450 men of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these actions at the landing zones X-Ray and Albany constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. How these men persevered makes a vivid portrait of war at its most inspiring and devastating.

Truly moving
Revisado: 01-25-20
I loved how it felt as if Gen. Moore was reading this to me himself. It breaks apart the movie not that it was wrong, but the movie covers multiple engagements and squashes them into one.
It's very nice hearing about LZ Albany in such detail and how the families dealt with the aftermath... somthing not alot of people think about.
The narrator did something I did not particularly like and that was his pronunciation of the term "air mobile". He pronounced it like automobile. It isnt said that way now and from what I've heard it wasn't said that way then either. it is commonly pronounced "air moe-bull."
Dont pass this book up, should be high school required reading.

If you want to study Paganism in more detail, this book is the place to start. Based on a course in Paganism that the authors have taught for more than a decade, it is full of exercises, meditations, and discussion questions for group or individual study. This book presents the basic fundamentals of Paganism. It explores what Pagans are like; how the Pagan sacred year is arranged; what Pagans do in ritual; what magick is; and what Pagans believe about God, worship, human nature, and ethics.

Revisado: 10-12-19
This book was great. I read about it in a comment and the author is offers excellent research and unbiased I think. I did not notice a bias towards wicca but if there is one perhaps it would be because of its popularity in general. The narration is excellent and the exercises given, I wish I would have found before in other material. Definitely prefer this books to any other and would say this should be the first or second read .

Historia
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently . . . carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life....

This book is a true beautiful work of art. The way Anne describes even the life of inanimate objects is breathtaking. Simon Vance really brought the words to life with his fantastic narration and me mmfeel as if I were listening to tv.

Due to the sheer number of Wicca 101 books on the market, many newcomers to the Craft find themselves piecing together their Wiccan education by taking a chapter from one book and a few pages from another. Rather than depending on snippets of wisdom to build a new faith, Wicca for Beginners provides a solid foundation to Wicca without limiting the listener to one tradition or path.

very good introduction
Revisado: 07-16-19
I love the level at which Thea teaches this concise intro to Wicca. It's a crash course for the querrent and I keep coming back to it time and time again. In this book there is no obvious sexism, bias, or Christian harping. Very nicely done.
