Historia
what if it's not the beginning or the end that is the key to a successful book? What if, amazing as it may seem, the place to begin writing your novel is in the very middle of the story? According to writing teacher James Scott Bell, that's exactly where you'll find your story's heart and heat. Bell's "Mirror Moment" is the secret, and its power is available to any writer, at any stage of the writing process...Bell presents a truly unique approach to writing a novel, one that will stand the test of time and serve you all your writing life.

I found the namesake sections, wherein he talks about writing from the middle, very useful. There was a bit of fluff, especially chapter 9, that some beginning writers might appreciate. But I found it off topic and mostly filler. I have recommended this text to others for a quick craft idea to help you plot.

We don’t see a lot of shy heroines and this one was just so loveable. Loved this story of her breaking out of her comfort zone to honor her Grammy.

Historia
Ebony and De’Kari (aka Flow) do not get along. How could they when their cafeteria scuffle ended with De'Kari's ruined shoes, Ebony on the ground, and both of them with ten days of at-home suspension? Now Eb and Flow have two weeks to think about and explain their behavior—to their families, to each other, and ultimately to themselves. Single-parent homes, tight funds, and sibling dynamics provide a balancing act for the growing tweens. And whether they realize it or not, these two have a lot more in common than they think.

Young readers are asking for stories like this - short, realistic and impactful. This was my first time reading Baptist. I’ll check out her other work.

Loved this middle grade story of friendship, family and magic. The author did a wonderful job weaving together so many elements, and using the sketchbook as the way to thread them all together. Looking forward to her other works.
