Historia
When Captain Kyle Mercer of the Army’s elite Delta Force disappeared from his post in Afghanistan, a video released by his Taliban captors made international headlines. But circumstances were murky: Did Mercer desert before he was captured? Then a second video sent to Mercer’s Army commanders leaves no doubt: The trained assassin and keeper of classified Army intelligence has disappeared.

One star for the Narrator
Revisado: 11-26-19
The story is a DeMille great, but Scott with his up and down volume has to go. The constant change in loud versus soft because of the way he imagined the character to speak or be was just annoying and often hard to hear.

Get rid of Dennis Quaid's voice
Revisado: 10-22-19
Sorry Dennis. But you should not be a story narrator. I understand that Audible wanted a serious, rough-tough guy to play the POTUS, but your voice is just not suitable. It's just too gruff and even non understandable. I really wanted to enjoy and finish this book but the narration made me turn it off and appreciate the quiet.

What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There's no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in digestible chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I'm not an astrophysicist, and Neil knows his stuff, but unfortunately, I was an English major and do not speak or understand astrophysics - terms or ideas. He lost me very quickly.
Would you ever listen to anything by Neil deGrasse Tyson again?
I doubt it except when he made more sense on Bill Maher's show.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

A Friend
Revisado: 07-20-17
I have recommended this book to many since I started listening to it. I say "listen" because Al's speaking style, intonations and just his vocal satire, I think you'd not get by reading the book. I doubt this would happen, but just in case, don't be a conservative, Trump-loving Republican and get this book. Even if you get half the humor and innuendoes, you won't be happy. Go listen to Rush. Should Al read these reviews, have you ever considered political office beyond the Senate as in the Presidency? I would thoroughly enjoy campaigning for you. Thank you for your book, your work in Congress, and love of MN (though I don't live there) and the U.S. You sound like a great friend to know and have.

Historia
Using his own experiences, log books, and correspondence with other U-boat crewmen, Hans Goebeler offers rich and personal details about what life was like in the German Navy under Hitler. Since his first and last posting was to U-505, Goebeler's perspective of the crew, commanders, and war patrols paints a vivid and complete portrait unlike any other to come out of the Kriegsmarine. He witnessed it all, from deadly sabotage efforts that almost sunk the boat to the tragic suicide of the only U-boat commander who took his life during World War II.

Revisado: 06-14-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely. I have a very good friend who I have suggested either buy the book or get Audible - preferably the latter. Hans and Norman put the reader/listener on that boat from beginning to end during WWII. Having been an enlisted sailor in the Navy, I can relate to his thoughts and feelings and enjoyed every second of my commute. Now, I would like to visit Chicago to see U-505 and get more info and maps. Thank you both for a terrific book.
What other book might you compare Steel Boat Iron Hearts to and why?
None
What about Norman Dietz’s performance did you like?
He voiced Han's thoughts very well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No

The voice of Alex Cross should not be the voice of a 20 something. That's what he sounds like in this book. Too bad. The story is great and continues the Alex Cross series well. Just get an older, more experienced voice.

What is with this narrator?
Revisado: 01-27-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Perhaps it was the time of day for my morning commute, but I just couldn't get into this book. I tried it twice with a month in between, and I think it may have been just the narrator. It was something about his pace and tone that I just didn't appreciate. Hope I can return this.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I just couldn't take him after a chapter.

Boredom
Revisado: 10-10-16
I just couldn't get into the story or the book's structure. It seemed slow to start and then time switching from past to present became annoying. Although I understood why the author did it in order to explain how the circumstances occurred, the switching back and forth really upset the flow of the story. I never give up on a book, but I did on this on quitting halfway through.

Historia
Seventy years ago, the interstellar supercarrier Ark Royal was the pride of the Royal Navy. But now, her weapons are outdated and her solid-state armour nothing more than a burden on her colossal hull. She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes to keep out of the public eye. But when a deadly alien threat appears, the modern starships built by humanity are no match for the powerful alien weapons.

Overly Dramatic
Revisado: 02-10-15
What would have made Ark Royal better?
Not so dramatic a reading. This is not Shakespeare. This is the English version of Battlestar Gallatica.
Would you recommend Ark Royal to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not for adults over a certain age.
What didn’t you like about Ralph Lister’s performance?
His reading cadence rises in the middle of his sentences and then fades away to barely discernible.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Ark Royal?
I would have cut out phrases such as "rolling of his eyes" which was very repetitive throughout the book. Another repetitive phrase was that "he was old enough (or almost old enough) to be Rose's father". We got it the first time. The reader doesn't have to be told that every time they had sex.

Historia
Edward Pellew, captain of the legendary Indefatigable, was quite simply the greatest British frigate captain in the age of sail. Left fatherless at age eight, with a penniless mother and five siblings, Pellew fought his way from the very bottom of the navy to fleet command. Victories and eye-catching feats won him a public following. Yet he had a gift for antagonizing his better-born peers, and he made powerful enemies. Redemption came with his last command, when he set off to do battle with the Barbary States and free thousands of European slaves.

Well done
Revisado: 01-28-15
If you enjoy the history of the Royal Navy, you'll enjoy this book on Edward Pellew. What an amazing life and more amazing that he was comparable to Nelson at the same time in history though without all the fanfare. For readers, I think the most exciting part was his leadership at the Battle of Algiers - well written that I could picture the actions in my minds eye.
