Historia
The teenagers get their kicks telling ghost stories in the old graveyard. The parents trust their kids will arrive home safe from school. Everyone knows everyone. Curtains rarely twitch. Front doors are left unlocked. But Diana Brewer isn’t lying safely in her bed where she belongs. Instead she lies in a hayfield, circled by vultures, discovered by a local farmer. How quickly a girl becomes a ghost. How quickly a town of friendly, familiar faces becomes a town of suspects, a place of fear and paranoia.

Story is like a first book…
Revisado: 10-31-24
Written by a teenager- do you know the ending from probably chapter 3 or 4. And the only reason to finish the book is to be amazed at how long it takes to end thereafter.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

What a surprise!
Revisado: 07-23-22
Book was suggested by a friend. I did not expect anything as I had never even heard of this group- knew nothing of the story or that a movie was being made. It was a choice outside of my usual, although broad genre selection. SO glad I took the suggestion and gave it a go. What a great listen! Performance is stellar!

Historia
Vinh Chung was born in South Vietnam, just eight months after it fell to the communists in 1975. His family was wealthy, controlling a rice-milling empire worth millions; but within months of the communist takeover, the Chungs lost everything and were reduced to abject poverty. Knowing that their children would have no future under the new government, the Chungs decided to flee the country. In 1979, they joined the legendary “boat people” and sailed into the South China Sea, despite knowing that an estimated two hundred thousand of their countrymen had already perished at the hands of brutal pirates and violent seas.

Just WOW!
Revisado: 04-04-21
Whomever called this a “coming of age story” got it so very very wrong. This book made me investigate its contents. Although I know there is hate in this world- I find it amazing that this is still going on even today. The story is sad. The story is depressingly beautiful. The story is eye opening in so many ways...

Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Revisado: 01-27-21
So well written. This story is happy and sad, funny but not, witty but serious. You will smile and be sad. You will cry and you will laugh out loud. You will likely see a small bit of yourself in each and every character. I just loved this book! I did not know what to expect as I chose this book at random- and I am thrilled I did.
