Why did he have to go and politicize a fantasy.

I don’t know about everyone but, for me, dragging political views and casting the MC as a racist against white people while having strong anti-American sentiments does not make for a compelling fantasy book. It is true it’s in the periphery but what the hell? The last thing I want is to try and enjoy a book while being accused by the author of being a someone who is willing to shoot brown people for sport. It’s a dick move and completely unnecessary to the story. This will probably spur books sales for the author if anyone reads this or even cares but it shouldn’t.

I listen to a ridiculous amount of book and typically abstain from writing reviews except for those rare occasions when something bothers me so much I have to say something. I liked the start, I liked the premise, I even liked the two points of perspective. What I didn't like was the half hearted guy that feels guilty for killing creatures that just tried to kill him. Its frustrating because I don't believe any person in THIS world would agonize about this moral dilemma while being attacked and then turn around and heal that attacker. I could go no further. Take your superiority complex to a self help book and drop it in a well.

Runner has a problem. He and 499,000 men and women are trapped in a game. He also just happens to be the only person from IT who could log everyone out safely. And he doesn't remember his password. He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had his memory scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue to how to save everyone. The problem is that whoever loaded them into the game loaded their minds completely.

I’ve listened to a lot of books and was incredibly frustrated by this narrator. I really dislike it when they change but I also understand that sometimes it is necessary. This person however reads at a very fast pace and for some, that is okay. For me, not so much. I moved down to .9x speed and WOW what a difference! It sounds like a regular audio book and I can understand and enjoy the narration. Trust me on this. Slow it down!

Repeating what many others have said

I like the idea of a semi LitRPG. It’s basically a dungeon crawl to level up your experience to get more powers situation. I don’t like the ambiguity of the main characters orientation. It’s a personal preference, though, I know I’m not the only person to feel this way. It was something that I remembered bothering me the first time through but I thought I could look past it because the story was interesting. Also, the author doesn’t talk about it that much. Then I started the second book... if it made me uncomfortable before the author’s politics make book 2 unbearable. No thank you.
