Funny and Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-11-23
I came into this series on book 4, so I was afraid I would feel like I had missed too much to be able to enjoy it. But, I was very wrong. I never felt like I missed out on anything. Oh, I knew from conversations that they had solved other mysteries before this, but this book definitely worked well as a standalone book. That being said, I want to listen to the entire series now. I know it's been out a few years, but this was a really good book. I normally take at least a week to listen to an 8 hour book, but I just couldn't stop listening to this one. It was so funny, and the ladies were so likeable, that I just wanted to keep listening. The narrator was awesome. She pulled off a dramatic Southern accent perfectly. Yes, it was over the top Southern, but that was the fun of listening to it. Plus, I have a friend that really does talk with that accent, so it was a very believable accent for a group of Texas ladies to have. The narrator, in my opinion, really made the book stand out. She had excellent voices for each character, and I never had to wonder who was doing the talking at any given point. So, if you're looking for a cozy mystery series to listen to, don't pass this one up. It was great fun and I definitely plan to listen to the entire series now.

During the pandemic, camping was supposed to be a fairly safe activity. That's only if you don't camp with Frannie Shoemaker. Frannie and her husband Larry commit in the fall of 2019 to take on a campground hosting job in the spring of 2020. In that time, the world turned upside down, and their job came with a whole new set of challenges. But of course, where Frannie's involved, other trouble can't be far behind.

Short, but Great
Revisado: 01-05-23
This was a very short listen, but I really enjoyed it. It was a little different from past books in this series and I found that refreshing and interesting. The narrator was great. Her style fits this series perfectly and I love all the different voices she portrays. You could listen to this book as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend starting at book one and working your way through the series so you get to know the characters’ personalities better. All in all, this was a great book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Revisado: 11-22-22
I love this series. It’s fun and funny and has plenty of mystery to mix in with it and make it the perfect cozy read. The narrator is fabulous and I couldn’t imagine these books without her. You don’t need to have read the previous books to thoroughly enjoy this one, but I highly recommend you listen to the whole series because they are so much fun to listen to.

Historia
Over 200 years ago, famed explorer Meriwether Lewis died on the Natchez Trace under mysterious circumstances. Historians still argue whether it was suicide or murder. That shouldn't affect a weekend campout in the present day for Frannie Shoemaker and her friends, but it does. They meet interesting characters at a mountain man rendezvous and get mixed up as usual with the strange goings-on. Because camping can be murder!

Super Fun Mystery
Revisado: 10-21-22
The books in this series just keep getting better and better. As I read each book and get to know the characters better, I enjoy the books more and more. Franny and her gang are at it again. I do love that Franny doesn’t usually put herself into stupid situations where she confronts the killer when they’re all alone and no one knows where she is. I hate it when characters do that. Franny is just naturally good at figuring things out, and her husband Larry is her anchor that keeps her grounded and safe. The narrator is excellent. It feels like she is telling a story and not at all like she is reading it. It’s smooth and easy to listen to. And everyone has a voice of their own. You are never left wondering who is doing the talking because they all sound similar. If you haven’t read the series before, you could easily start with this book. The stories don’t interconnect in any way and this could easily be a stand-alone book. But, if you really want to get to know the characters and Franny’s gang of friends, start with book one in the series. It’s fun. You will enjoy all of the books and will want to listen to more when you’re done with them all.

Historia
General Maada leads his fleet to the White Republic universe, where the Xenoakakies rule with an iron fist. There, he’s surprised to meet a few old friends as well as some new foes, including the Death Angel, the legendary enemy pilot who’s killed the general’s doppelganger. While Maada has been through his fair share of hopeless battles, this particular conflict is on another level altogether, even for him. The insects’ hold on this universe seems unshakable, and their fleet dwarfs the general’s in both numbers and power by no small margin.

I Need the Next Book Immediately
Revisado: 10-06-22
I absolutely love this series! I was a little hesitant when I started this book and realized that Jim was not Jim, but he quickly grew on me. As always, the team faces insurmountable woes and it’s an edge of your seat feeling to see how they are going to come out of this one. And, as always, don’t get too attached to the characters, because you never know who lives and who dies in these books. This one broke my heart, but I have a feeling the next book will somehow make it all better.
CJ Grey does an excellent job narrating this book. I can’t imagine Jim having any other voice. Grey is absolute perfection as a narrator. I can’t think of a single thing I would change about his performance.
Now, I just have to wait until 2023 to listen to the next book. I can’t wait!

Perfect Balance
Revisado: 05-20-22
This book strikes a perfect balance between humor, romance, mystery, and magic. I loved every minute of the book. Heck, I loved every minute of both books in this series and I can’t wait for the next book. I hope it comes out soon! The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. I wouldn’t want anyone else voicing these characters. If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for?

Great Romantic Mystery
Revisado: 03-28-22
This was a great romantic mystery. I learned a lot about biker clubs, lol, but it was oddly interesting. The characters were likeable and the setting sounded beautiful. Now I want to vacation there! My only complaint was the lesson we got in bison and another one in how to ride a motorcycle. They didn’t contribute to the narrative of the story in any way. Also, there was a weird lack of contractions. It was all very formal sounding, which is strange for a group of bikers. The narrator was perfect for a “he-man” type narration. There was a strange lack of emotion there that I felt should have been present for the female characters, but it worked perfectly for the men. Overall, this was a great book and a great listen.

I'm Already Anticipating the Next Book!
Revisado: 01-23-22
I absolutely LOVE this series. The narrator is perfect. He can do all of the voices, all of the accents, all of the emotions. It doesn't get any better than this narrator. I love the characters. They are so real. Their personalities shine. Even the characters that are going to die and you only get to meet them for a moment or two seem real and you feel awful when they die. Every second of these books seem so well thought-out. Their witty references to things that are going on in our world today make me laugh out loud. They are facing death and they are still cracking jokes. I love it. Humor in a book is very important to me and I think that's why I love these books so much. There's drama and action everywhere, but humor is sprinkled all around in just the right amounts. If you haven't read this series yet, go find book one and get started. You won't regret it. I had never even heard the term "Space Opera" until I started listening to this series, and now it's my new favorite genre! Stop reading my review now and get started on this series. It's awesome. My only regret right now is that I'm going to have a long wait for book 7.

Steampunk Shenanigans with Just a Pinch of Romance
Revisado: 12-22-21
This book was great! I laughed quite a lot and found myself fascinated with the whole steampunk genre. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Even the servants were hilarious. I am hoping this is actually book 1 of a series because I would love to hear more of their stories. Michelle Babb was an excellent narrator. She even got all the accents nailed!
