Historia
It should have been an easy victory. After the triumph in Tunisia, the sweeping success of Sicily, and with Italy finally knocked out of the war, the Allies were quietly confident that Rome would be theirs before Christmas 1943. And yet it didn't happen. Hitler decided not to give ground, and the stage was set for one of the grimmest and most attritional phases of the war. Even though they were short of supplies and support, German forces, even in retreat, made the Allies fight for every bitter yard.

A wonderful telling of the story of the horrors of the Italian campaign
Revisado: 03-19-24
Holland does a wonderful job of piecing together the story of the early months of the Italian campaign using contemporary sources. A great examination of the strategy and thinking behind it but also how it was experienced by the armed forces of both sides and the Italian civilian population as well. A must listen if you like your WWII history

Historia
When Churchill's top secret Special Operations Executive needed to destroy the Gestapo HQ in the centre of downtown Copenhagen to prevent a devastating Nazi last stand that might prolong the war for many months, there was only one machine for the job - the Mosquito. This is the story of that legendary aircraft told through that one impossible mission.

Historia
In a forbidding Gothic castle on a hilltop in the heart of Nazi Germany, an unlikely band of British officers spent the Second World War plotting daring escapes from their Nazi captors. Or so the story of Colditz has gone, unchallenged for 70 years. But that tale contains only part of the truth. The astonishing inside story, revealed for the first time by best-selling historian Ben Macintyre, is a tale of the indomitable human spirit, but also one of class conflict, homosexuality, espionage, insanity and farce.

Historia
In May 1941 the German battleship Bismarck, accompanied by heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, broke out into the Atlantic to attack Allied shipping. The Royal Navy's pursuit and subsequent destruction of the Bismarck was an epic of naval warfare. In this new account of those dramatic events at the height of the Second World War, Iain Ballantyne draws extensively on the graphic eyewitness testimony of veterans to construct a thrilling story, mainly from the point of view of the British battleships, cruisers, and destroyers involved.

An excellent history spoiled by the narration
Revisado: 04-20-23
A great factual exploration of the events surrounding the battles centred on the Bismarck. Sadly for me it took several times to get into this audiobook largely due to the monotonous and at times very poor narration. My apologies but having an American narrate a Royal Navy history grated somewhat and was the big let down for me of this book. Otherwise and excellent account of the events, people and also the aftermath with regards to the vessels involved in the hunt.

Historia
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Vulcan 607 by Rowland White, read by Roy McMillan. It was to be one of the most ambitious operations since 617 Squadron bounced their revolutionary bombs into the dams of the Ruhr Valley in 1943.... When Argentine forces invaded the Falklands in the early hours of 2 April 1982, Britain's military chiefs were faced with a real-life Mission Impossible.

Historia
At the age of 23, Brian Wood was thrust into the front line in Iraq, in the infamous Battle of Danny Boy. Ambushed, he led a charge across open ground with insurgents firing at just five soldiers. On his return, he was awarded the Military Cross. But Brian's story had only just begun. Struggling to reintegrate into family life, he suffered from PTSD. Then, five years later, a letter arrived: it summoned him to testify at the Al-Sweady Inquiry into allegations of war crimes by British soldiers during the Iraq invasion of 2003.

Revisado: 03-16-21
Brian’s story should be held up as one of not just how a soldier should behave but how anyone aspiring to lead should behave. Told with great balance and thought, a story of stoic courage and endurance in front of not just a battleground enemy but also enemies from unexpected quarters. A riveting listen.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

A Righteous Rockin Rollercoaster tapestry of a rock n roll life
Revisado: 04-18-17
Since being 15 yards from the front of a 100'000 strong crowd at Roundhay Park Leeds on the Born in the USA tour Bruce's music has followed me throughout my life. This superbly self narrated autobiography gives the background story to the crafting and performing of one of rock's greatest collection of songs. A more down to earth and open superstar it would be difficult to find. The only problem for me is that I could carry on listening to this book far longer than it's already substantial length.
