Historia
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Strong start but then drags
Revisado: 07-26-23
Really quite enjoyed the first portion of the book, but then it felt like it got lost in itself following too many ideas and characters. Didn't bother to finish it.

Historia
Miah Gray is a 27-year-old former army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush, Jen. When the sun's light is blotted out the following morning and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy.

Not bad
Revisado: 06-23-22
It felt like the author has never met an actual 7yo human girl. If you pretend that character isn't 7 the story is a lot more tolerable.
Overall you have to give a lot of grace to the actions and attitudes of the characters because they don't act like anyone would act in a similar situation. If you can do that its an enjoyable enough story.
Edit - the last few hours of the book and the "twist" lowered my ranking from 3 stars to 2.

Not a very good book for the genre
Revisado: 09-21-18
Somewhat entertaining, but very flat and doesnt really feel like it develops into much. Jeff Hays saves this book with another unbelievably good performance, but still would not recommend it.

Historia
When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-25-14
What was most disappointing about Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent ’s story?
The story was slow to get to the boy's experience and then once it did, it came off as being very unbelievable. Every time time the father gave "proof" of the son's experience it was clear how it could easily be explained away.
Any additional comments?
I wanted to love this book. I got it and listened to it hoping it would be an audio book to give to a terminally ill family member who has less than a month to live. I did not find the book inspirational and don't see how others do and would not waste her precious hours with this book. Very disappointing.
It also took a while to get used to the poor recording quality. It sounded as if it were recorded in a hollow room. There was a constant, slight echo.

Overall I felt the story was lacking what I was looking for. I did not find it inspirational and felt myself waiting for the chapters to end to hopefully get to an actual experience rather than mere dialogue of the family coping with the event and filler to attempt to move the story along.
I suggest you look elsewhere for an inspirational book.
