Terrible! Literally checked to see if a man wrote this :/

This is my first foray into this world and having no prior context of characters, I strongly dislike the casting. Voices, tones and delivery don’t seem to match the authors written intent. Additionally, the 1980s “techno” music is awful and distracting. Now, to the story: So far the overarching message seems to be that all the boys are hot and have power so when they exert that over you in every way, consent is nonexistent and that’s OK because even when they mentally and physically abuse you and sexually assault you, you might actually like it. You should just deal with it through mildly pithy self commentary because you can’t do anything else :/ huge ick factors on repeat. I understand a series “is a journey” but this book is not a message I would ever want any woman to see as normalized. :( if you saw this series on a list with books like ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, Daughter of No Worlds, etc. SKIP THIS ONE. You will be disappointed and frustrated.

I liked this one. Struggling to get over that narrator’s clearly did not communicate around pronunciation of character names. Female narrator, I believe, mispronounces a main character name, while the male narrator pronounces it correctly. This happens throughout the story and it’s just annoying. Otherwise, a good listen.

Started well, middle is infuriating

The main male character is an absolutely terrible person mid book. With a child in the middle of an awkward situation instead of being relatable - he is selfish, unaware and truly despicable- I may not make it to the end of this. Meanwhile the female protagonist goes off the rails which seems out of character entirely. Beginning was interesting, middle is just ridiculous.

Narrator is too much

Everyone, male and female is either very high brow English or some weird combo of Caribbean trying to be Irish? Or lowland English? And always with an odd drawl. It’s really distracting because it’s so off from the characters written by the author. And she starts yelling whenever the main character experiences stress, which isn’t actually appropriate for the moment. Struggling through because I really like the story itself but if I didn’t already own it, I’d skip it and buy the physical book.
