Historia
In the fall of 1959, Freda Gilroy arrives on the campus of Fisk University full of hope, carrying a suitcase and the voice of her father telling her she’s part of a family legacy of greatness. Soon, the ugliness of the Jim Crow South intrudes, and she’s thrust into a movement for social change. Freda is reluctant to get involved, torn between a soon-to-be doctor her parents approve of and an audacious young man willing to risk it all in the name of justice.

Beautifully Told
Revisado: 02-19-25
I loved this book and the character development. I was sometimes frustrated by the naivety of Frieda and Tulip, but they didn’t know what they didn’t know or experience. So, that was just my own eyes seeing things in perspective that they could not. The last two chapters still have me in an emotional chokehold. Oh my - my heart!

Historia
Gaia is dying. That, at least, is what Dr. Lionel Scott believes. A renowned expert in tropical and infectious diseases, Scott has witnessed the devastating impact of illness and turmoil at critical scale. Society as it exists is untenable, and the direct link to Earth’s death spiral; population levels are out of control and people have allowed disarray and disorder to run rampant. While most are concerned about deadly disease, Scott knows that it is truly humanity itself that will destroy Gaia.

Disappointed

I could not enjoy this story because of the narrator. The voice used for Lettie made her seem uneducated and she is far from that. What happened to the narrator from the previous books? So disappointing.

Magical Mysteries Rule
Revisado: 11-10-24
Absolutely loved this book - I have listened to it twice within a week. The new generation of Benjie and Heddy's family is fabulous. Also having them return but as grandparents touched my heart. I just love Velma/Violet and Olivia (named for Uncle Oliver) and this adventure. Now I need a book that tells the story of Benjie and Heddy raising their family and still solving mysteries. This book has given me so much joy! Plus Bahni Turpin is amazing as usual as the narrator.

Historia
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-21-17
I have loved Grisham's work for years, but the books have changed in the quality of plot and writing. The only recent book that was vintage Grisham, to me, is Sycamore Row. This current work was far too convoluted. Who's writing for Grisham??? The narrator was horrible.
