Historia
Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin star in these four gems. In "The Christmas Party", Wolfe condescends to uncharacteristic theatrics, which aren't enough to clear him from suspicion of murder. The "Easter Parade" tempts Wolfe to commit larceny for an orchid. "A Fourth of July Picnic" has Wolfe scheduled for to appear as an orator. But his day in the sun is rained out by murder. The last selection, "Murder Is No Joke", is a whodunit in a couturier's salon, where a murderer is dressed to kill and kill again.

Good stories
Revisado: 01-18-25
Unlike some of the Nero Wolfe novels, these stories were not filled with extraneous details. I enjoyed the variety of the mysteries.

Was bothered by what I considered his constant whining and obsessiveness. They were not meant for each other and had very different life goals. Didn’t they talk about these things?

The story starts out well but flags near the end as Amy starts to whine about pursuing her quest. I wanted her to get on with it and solve the mystery.

What dribble
Revisado: 06-25-21
A very confusing story/mystery. I disliked the narrator's voice, way too posh. The story only got intersting at the end but otherwise it was too long, too disjointed, and boring.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I did not like the premise of the novel. A young girl held hostage more or less by an older man to do his bidding. Didn't know by the description of the novel that was the story.

annoying
Revisado: 12-05-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I gave up about 1/4 through the novel. I found Emily too annoying and the narrator in her breathless voice annoying as well.
Perhaps younger people could relate and enjoy this audiobook. I read all the Harry Potter books which I enjoyed. This novel was a waste of my one credit.
What was most disappointing about Christopher G. Nuttall’s story?
Emily the protagonist. Poor, poor Emily. She had such a crappy childhood and she didn't fit in and no one liked her.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator seemed to whine but that was the character Emily. Couldn't stand to listen to her after a while.

Great ending to the series
Revisado: 12-19-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I've already recommended the books to friends. It's a very good story and very well told. Lots of adventure, sword fighting, magic, tragedy, romance, a page turner.
What other book might you compare Heir of Novron to and why?
I've never read/listened to anything like this series.
Which scene was your favorite?
The entire "Heir of Novron" was amazing in my opinion and there were many, many scenes which delighted me, made me cry, had me on the edge of my seat, couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had tears in my eyes many times as well as laughing out loud.
Any additional comments?
I think Michael J. Sullivan finished the series beautifully. He wrapped up everything and I was not disappointed in the ending. I will be reading/listening to more of his books and Tim Gerard Reynolds, the narrator as well.

Great story and story telling
Revisado: 12-19-14
Would you listen to Rise of Empire again? Why?
I enjoyed the entire series, and want to listen to all the books again. There is a lot of complexity in the stories and one can't comprehend everything in one listening. Plus, good books are always worth reading more than once.
What other book might you compare Rise of Empire to and why?
I've never read a series like this one.
Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoy the scenes when Hadrian and Royce are joking about what other careers they could do instead of being professional thieves and when Royce is trying to disway Hadrian from being so trusting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, which is impossible since it is many, many hours long. However, I did listen for many hours at a time which I usually don't do.
Any additional comments?
Tim Gerard Reynolds, the narrator, did a masterful job reading the books. He had so many voices for each character, I always knew who was speaking. He did an amazing job with Arista's voice, a woman, he conveyed her as strong and not whining. And the voices of Royce and Hadrian I think are spot on. I can't think of them sounding like anyone else.

Revisado: 02-13-14
What didn’t you like about Pete Bradbury’s performance?
Pete Bradbury's voice is too gravelly. I found it very unpleasant to listen to. I didn't listen to the sample but this taught me to listen to the sample audio before I buy another audio book.

Meh on Virgin River
Revisado: 03-07-12
Would you try another book from Robyn Carr and/or Therese Plummer?
No.
What was most disappointing about Robyn Carr’s story?
The heroine was irritating. In the beginning of the book all she did was whine.
What didn’t you like about Therese Plummer’s performance?
I didn't like her voice and I thought she read the story too slowly.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was disappointed in the story and didn't like Mel. Too whiney, too wimpy, too middle class. She buys and wears designer jeans and shoes. She drives a BMW. She yells
