Couldn't stand to finish. Too grotesque
Revisado: 01-15-18
Too grotesque, descriptions attempting to shock. Unbelievable emotions expressed by main character. Great narration of a lousy book.

Good and Enjoyable Story and Characters
Revisado: 01-13-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It is a good mystery, Characters with depth and integrity
What other book might you compare The Cold Dish to and why?
Similar to many Dick Francis books in that there was a good plot, written in first person, lead character who has to overcome difficult circumstances, and does so with integrity. There is an element of mysticism (Native American) that is absent from Dick Francis' books.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
George Guidall is brilliant in bringing out the depth of the characters with his voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. Books you want to read in one sitting are like junk food. ... this one was like a seven course meal. You don't want to rush through it. You want to savor it as you read.
Any additional comments?
Though the characters had an integrity about them, they did exhibit a degree of sarcasm and cynicism that I felt went a little too far.

Shallow
Revisado: 01-13-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who likes a whodunit who doesn't care for depth of character or to learn anything new when reading a book.
What could Stuart Woods have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Give his lead character something that could make me admire him.
What three words best describe Robert Lawrence’s voice?
Average reader. Varied his voice enough to clearly identify who was speaking. One accent reminded me of Wojo on Barney Miller TV show.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment that a book that did make me want to know exactly what happened and who did it, had so very little else to make me want to finish it.
Any additional comments?
There is nothing here to learn in this book. Police procedure was inconsistent and unbelievable. Though it takes place in NYC, you will learn nothing about NYC. Though there are scenes in TV production studios and hospitals, you will learn nothing about how they work. Very shallow and unbelievable.

Historia
Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Enjoyed but poor production
Revisado: 10-26-15
Greatly enjoyed story and performances by narrators. Production was lacking but not enough to ruin the audio book. In some audio books I notice the narrator's voice changes at start of chapter and I assume the narration was done in multiple takes. In this production, the changes are more frequent, even for one sentence or phrase. Likeable and capable hero solves a complex series of murders. Good formula for enjoyable mystery. DB has never disappointed me with any of his books.
