Like Bars on a Track. Flawless!!!
Revisado: 02-09-25
*The Accomplice* by Curtis Jackson is an electrifying read. The narration is smooth and effortless—every word hits like a perfectly timed beat. The story moves fast, with sharp, poetic lines that stick with you long after. It’s gripping, raw, and flows like bars on a track—unapologetic and real.

Historia
January 1970 finds Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins, LA’s premier Black detective, at 50 years of age despite all expectations. He has a loving family, a beautiful home, and a thriving investigation agency. All is right with the world… and then Amethystine Stoller, his own personal Helen of Troy, arrives. Her ex-husband is missing. A simple enough case. But even as Easy takes his first step in the investigation he trips. He falls into the memory of things past. Little things, like loss, love, a world war, and a hunger that has eaten at him since he was a Black boy on his own.

Too Much Unnecessary Stuff
Revisado: 12-19-24
Easy Rawlins is one of my favorite series but I was really disappointed with this novel. There was a lot of unnecessary dialogue I felt added nothing to the main plot. Checking in with Feather and Juice? We can just assume he does this.

Historia
Stephen L. Carter’s brilliant debut, The Emperor of Ocean Park, spent 11 week son the New York Times best seller list. Now, in Jericho’s Fall, Carter turns his formidable talents to the shadowy world of spies, official secrecy, and financial fraud in a thriller that rivets the listener’s attention until the very last minute. In an imposing house in the Colorado Rockies, Jericho Ainsley, former head of the Central Intelligence Agency and a Wall Street titan, lies dying.

Sordid Affairs and Secrets Galore
Revisado: 12-13-24
My first foray into the exciting world of Jericho Ainsley came with Stephen L. Carter's "Back Channel." Here, he's older but just as cunning, as he lures Beck into his sordid world again. A world of secrets some would kill to keep quiet.
Carter is one of my favorite story tellers. His prose is brilliant and baits you into reading way past your bedtime. Every book a page turner. If you want a book you can't put down, read "Jericho's Fall."

Historia
In 1938, two rival expeditions descend on an ancient temple recently discovered in the jungles of Honduras, one intending to shoot a screwball comedy on location there, the other to disassemble the temple and ship it back to New York. A seemingly endless stalemate ensues, and 20 years later a rogue CIA agent sets out to exploit it for his own ends, unaware that the temple is a locus of conspiracies far grander than anyone could ever have guessed.

Historia
In the beginning, Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins and Raymond "Mouse" Alexander were merely two young men hitting the road. In a "borrowed" 1936 Ford, they head for Pariah, Texas on a mission to retrieve money from Mouse's stepfather so he can marry his EttaMae. But on their steamy bayou excursion, Mouse chooses murder as a way out, while Easy's past liaison with EttaMae floats precariously in his memory. Easy and Mouse are coming of age - and everything they ever knew about friendship and about themselves is coming apart at the seams.

The Introduction
Revisado: 02-12-19
Again, a great Easy Rawlins novel. Not a mystery -- well, not in the truest sense (but you'll see what I mean when you get to the part about Clifton and why Mouse is so interested in him and his love starved girlfriend, Ernestine).
This is a story about the beginnings: Easy's uneasiness around the sour at first Mouse, and for good reason. Their voyage to Pariah. Easy's love of Momma Jo and later his love-sickness. What makes him so thirsty for books and reading and what drew him to California from Houston. It's all there and it's all beautiful.
