The holidays are fast approaching and Dominique Miller finds herself running from California to Alabama to escape her abusive ex, Elliot Milford, with her cat, Selene in tow. For a moment of respite, she stops at a café and quickly realises that she is not as ahead of him as she thought. Enter Edgar Himura, a truck driver passing by on his way to Georgia for a routine delivery. What originally starts out as kind gesture to wait with her for the police turns into an offer to take her along with him, which Dominique reluctantly accepts.

Narrator killed the story for me

The story itself is short and pretty linear. The pacing of events and budding relationship between the main characters moved oddly quickly. The narration was so over the top that it ruined the immersion pretty frequently. Overall, a quick read with an ok story.
