Historia
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Historia
Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place. Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits.

DNF - I got to the talking dolphins; had to stop
Revisado: 09-11-24
Interesting premise.
No differentiation between characters, everyone sounded the same. Sorry Mr. Wheaton, you are not my favorite narrator.
Got to the talking dolphins that were constantly dropping f-bombs and had to stop. It was too much.

Historia
The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

Wish it was a better narrator
Revisado: 07-12-24
I have heard so much about how good this series is. I want to finish it. The narrator though is not one of my favorites. Sometimes his voice can be...annoying. His performance of Kruppe is absolutely annoying. Every time he makes that character speak I was to turn it off and bleach out my ears. A better performer, that can actually do different voices, would make this performance much better and help with the understanding of the story. Needs Steven Pacey in my opinion... I guess after book 3 is a different narrator, maybe it gets better.
It is a slog to get through really, I have DNF'd 3 times but I am determined to get through this book to get to the rest of the series. There is a lot to take in, and not a lot is explained.
It feels as if this first book is 90-95% world building. Besides the Siege of Pale it doesn't feel like anything happens. It is a book that sets up everything else....
If you have patience, you may be able to get through it. I may DNF it again, read about this one on the WIKI and go straight to book 2.

Historia
Crazy wizards, toothless vampires, business-savvy orcs, caring zombies, and a halfling mafia make up only a small cast of oddities that define the land of Ononokin! There's an Upperworld, an Underworld, an Afterlife, Twelve Gods and the Fates who created them, and there are even hints of a Middleworld (though this is yet to be verified).

Pallet Cleanser
Revisado: 06-24-24
I saw this on Audible when i had an extra credit and picked it up. It was well worth it.
This is not "change the world" prose. It is silly and, as I say in the title, a pallet cleanser. It doesn't take itself too seriously. If you go into it knowing that it is silly, it is a fun time.
The narrator reads in that silly way. (He knows it's silly and reads it as such.) He is giving you that verbal wink that says, "this is gonna be fun". His voices are top notch. All of his characters are distinct and his accents are very good.
Give it a chance, have some fun.
