Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

It’s okay
Revisado: 11-24-23
Idk, people are obsessed with this series, but the writing is… alright. The story is interesting enough that I listened to both books and will probably listen to the next one, but I don’t think it deserves all the hype it gets online.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Decent story
Revisado: 09-09-23
I enjoyed this book (and am enjoying the series) over all. I think my biggest issue is that the characters are meant to be adults but act like teenagers? Or maybe it’s just written in a way that feels young? Like YA but with adult content. However, it was still a fun listen.

Historia
Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin.

Way better than the first
Revisado: 08-26-23
This isn’t a series that will be covered in any university literature classes, but it’s enjoyable fantasy with some hella spicy bits. The first book was meh, but if you made it through the first one I recommend reading this one, 100%.

The City Watch needs men! But what it's got includes Corporal Carrot (technically a dwarf), Lance-Constable Cuddy (really a dwarf), Lance-Constable Detritus (a troll), Lance-Constable Angua (a woman...most of the time) and Corporal Nobbs (disqualified from the human race for shoving). And they need all the help they can get, because someone in Ankh-Morpork has been getting dangerous ideas - about crowns and legendary swords and destiny.

One of my favorite Terry Pratchett books
Revisado: 07-24-23
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for performance is because I feel like the way they do the footnotes takes you out of the story, however, I understand that footnotes the way Terry Pratchett does them poses a challenge with an audio book. If you enjoy Terry Pratchett, give it a listen, if you’ve never read Terry Pratchett, give it a listen.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

10/10, beautifully written
Revisado: 03-22-23
I was skeptical, I feel like Greek mythology has been over done, but I kept hearing how good this book is so I gave it a shot. Ho boy. This book is sad and brutal and beautifully done. I was not prepared. I definitely recommend it, although I did find that listening at 1.1x speed was ideal.

Historia
Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor with her sisters and their father and stepmother. Once there were 12, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls' lives have been cut short. Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that her sister's deaths were no accidents. The girls have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn't sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts.

Not my cup of tea, but maybe give it a try
Revisado: 02-02-23
I feel like I would have enjoyed this book when I was 12/13. As it is, I expected more, although I’m not sure where that expectation came from. It’s fine. There’s a lot going on, and the writing ft a bit clunky to me at times. I’ve listened to this narrator before and she sounds like an automated voice to me, as if Siri was used. But that being said, if you’re looking for a dark-ish fairytale and don’t feel like you’re picky about writing or narration, give it a chance, you might like it better than I did.

Historia
As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose - to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he'll return the world's captured gods. Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can't control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can't hurt those she loves. Again. But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn't learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood - and her world - whole.

Meh
Revisado: 01-03-23
I haven’t finished yet, but I’m not sure I will. The Narration is blah, the characters are flat, and there’s a lot of background that it feels like you just have to assume. I keep thinking that maybe it’s a slow build and everything will be explained, but so far… no dice. I was expecting a dark, adult-y retelling of a fairytale, but it really hasn’t given me that vibe.

So. Long.
Revisado: 04-25-22
I’ve been casually listening to these books, and I assume anyone who has listened to or read the others and made it this far will likely continue. But, heads up, it’s a beast. I don’t know if I’m just getting bored with the story, but it felt like there was an immense amount of unnecessary detail that made it drag on and on, and at times it made it difficult to get through. It had enough good parts to keep me listening (barely) but it was definitely my least favorite so far. Good luck.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-19-22
This series hasn’t been one that I’m absolutely in love with, but I’ve enjoyed it enough that I listened to all three. They’re not deeply gripping stories, but they’re enjoyable fairy-tale-esque stories. I think I’d probably enjoy them more reading vs listening. If you’re looking for something that’s just a decent story, I recommend these!

Great story, awful narration
Revisado: 01-08-22
I enjoyed the story enough to keep listening, but holy smokes the narration made it a struggle. Very little emotion, sounds like it’s being read by Siri. The accent didn’t bother me, just the. weird pauses in. the middle of the sentence. Weird emphases and pauses made it sound awkward and robotic, and made it difficult to listen to. I’d recommend buying the book and reading it yourself.
