Historia
The journey across the zombie-filled country does not get easier for the renegades. The Great Plains, the heartland of America, is now home to vast herds of the undead. These savage hordes sometimes stretch as far as the eye can see. Among them live the Azael - men who have regressed back to the bloody and chaotic roots of our collective ancestors where only the strong or the blood-thirsty survive.

Awesome as anyways, just one compliant
Revisado: 09-18-16
I had to remove 1 star for story from my usual 5 stars across the board for this series.
Granted, I'm never a big fan of sudden love between 2 characters in any novel like this, but whatever is happening between Gray and Deanna is cringe-worthy. It seems extremely forced (and probably is on Deanna's part), and they either need to cut the crap or just satisfy their sexual tensions and get "it" over with already. I was very tempted to skip past the parts where Gray would "give Deanna a reluctant smile and didn't know why" (paraphrasing), or when Deanna would seemingly do anything to gain Gray's approval. Just no.
Otherwise though, great stuff!

Historia
Nothing is simple anymore in the new undead world. Crossing a road, making tea, meeting new people, all can turn deadly in a twitch of an eye. For the Renegades, who are unarmed and hounded over half the state by ruthless bounty hunters, there's only one thing that they can say is simple: dying. Surrounded by enemies and without help from the imprisoned Captain Grey, they flee from one trap into another with little but the wits of Jillybean and Neil's steadfast leadership to keep them alive. But is it enough?

Love the direction the series is taking!
Revisado: 09-09-16
Would you listen to The Apocalypse Renegades again? Why?
If/when this series ends, I will undoubtedly revisit all of the novels again eventually.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Apocalypse Renegades?
To me it has to be the final encounter between Ernest and Jilly Bean, and Jilly's ensuing transformation (the emergence of Eve) after the "death" of Ipes. What is really going on with Jilly Bean? It is PTSD, schizophrenia, telepathy, something of a paranormal nature, or some combination of the above? I feel like Jilly has gradually been becoming the primary focus of these novels (rather than Neil) but it may be this particular moment that seals the deal and leaves no doubt. This series is now the Jilly Bean story, and unlike some others, I absolutely love it! So glad that I will be able to listen to Book 6 immediately after finishing 5 after waiting forever between books 4 and 5.
What about Basil Sands’s performance did you like?
Mr. Sands does a superb job at giving each and every character their own unique voice, even among some of the less important characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I'm never the type to want to listen to any book all in one sitting, as I like to try and draw it out a bit so that it lasts longer. :)
Any additional comments?
Unlike many other series (books, shows, movies, and everything else), I feel like this series is getting better with each installment. Now onto book 6, and hopefully I won't have to wait very long for book 7 after that!

...and beyond ideally! I hope this isn't the last in the series, but something tells me there are still a lot more stories to tell regarding the adventures if Mason and Tanner. This book made for an amazing conclusion to the Pike/Glass story arc. And superb narration as always in the series.

Good story, drowsiness-inducing narrator
Revisado: 01-13-16
The first book in this series has a good story, but I have to say that the narrator read it more like a bedtime story than a book about the beginning of TEOTWAWKI.
It seemed as though he was recording the narration in the middle of a library -- many people (females in particular) spoke, and even screamed, as though in a whisper. Like he was afraid of disturbing his sleeping parents in the next room... :) Because of this, parts of the story that should have been filled with suspense and thrills did not feel this way.
I had to push myself to continue listening to this one, but ultimately I am glad that I did. I feel like things picked up more in the 2nd half of the story and it was easier to listen to in spite of the narration.
I will say, though, that I just started on the 2nd book and the narration seems to have improved a bit. It's possible that I'm just getting used to his narration style, but I really do think it sounds less monotonous and sleepy.

Beaten and battered in mind and body, the fugitives limp west, unaware that the human world is fading all around them, unaware that the last remnants of the goodness of man is being ground under the heel of evil at every turn. When confronted with that evil, fight or flight are their only choices, however, Neil's small group is hamstrung, forced to take on more refugees who come to them empty-handed, unarmed, and hungry.

Addicting -- That's what means, excellent series!
Revisado: 11-24-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Apocalypse Fugitives to be better than the print version?
I wouldn't know, since I have only experienced the audio version.
What other book might you compare The Apocalypse Fugitives to and why?
Any other book in "The Undead World" series (obviously). Other than that, any Apocalypse book which features (mainly, anyway) civvies as opposed to the usual military or prepper types as main characters. The Mountain Man series is a favorite of mine.
Which scene was your favorite?
Probably when Jillybean bails everyone out at the Piggly Wiggly.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not necessarily.
Any additional comments?
Can't wait for part 5 to be released on Audible. That's what means, I don't actually read books anymore and consume all of my book content via audio books these days. :)

Very promising beginning
Revisado: 08-31-15
Regarding the narration -- RC Bray is without question my favorite narrator and I will be makong it a point to seek out his work from now on. I could probably listen to him read a chemistry textbook and be mildly entertained.
Anyway, Fortress Britain is a very solid beginning to a series that I will no doubt be listening to all the way through, provided it maintains the same good quality throughout.

Historia
The Superpox-99 virus has wiped out nearly the entire human race. Governments have collapsed. Cities have become graveyards filled with unspeakable horror. People have resorted to scavenging from the dead, or taking from the living. The entire industrialized world has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, decaying bodies, and feral animals. To stay alive, U.S. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must forage for food, water, and gasoline while outgunning those who seek to take advantage of the apocalyptic anarchy. Together with his giant Irish wolfhound, Bowie, he aligns with survivors of the town of Boone in a life and death struggle against a gang of violent criminals. With each deadly encounter, Mason is force to accept his place as one of the nation's few remaining lawmen. In a world now populated by escaped convicts, paranoid mutants, and government hit squads, his only hope to save the townspeople is to enforce his own brand of frontier justice.

Decent, nothing spectacular
Revisado: 08-29-15
Having an interest in this sort of thing (TEOTWAWKI scenarios, zombies, survivalism) I was interested enough to finish this 5 hour audio book in one night, but I found many of the characters and dialogue to be unmemorable, predictable, and sometimes cliche. There's nothing here that you haven't seen elsewhere.
With that said however, I will be checking out the next book and go from there -- I'll give this series one more try with book 2 and see if it starts to captivate me. I really like the main character and look forward to hearing the next book with a different narrator (not a fan of this dude at all -- perhaps maybe that is why I'm not as high in the book as I thought I would have been?)

In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep.
