Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family…

Unique children's story... Loved it!

Great, except for one BIG mis-step in the end.
Revisado: 09-25-20
Imaginative, mythic, and funny... everything you'd expect from NG. The cast did a bang-up job. My only quibble was that a major character was treated shabbily in the end by people she had every reason to trust., and that left a sour taste in my mouth for what was otherwise a fine yarn.

In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

A Star Wars (Love) Story
Revisado: 01-08-18
I have read MANY SW novels, and this is simply one of the best. The characterizations are complex and believable, and the plots twists and turns enough to leave the ending in doubt up until the final chapters.
But, make no mistake:this is not a SW adventure with a 'romantic subplot'; this is a love story with a SW adventure plot intertwined with it, and neither would work without the other. I think the author balanced the two elements very well, but I recognize that not everyone will agree.
The narrator did an awesome job: his voice-acting was top-notch in the more emotional scenes, and his impressions of the original voices for the characters is largely spot-on, especially for Obi-Wan and Count Dooku.

Pulp action and occult mystery.
Revisado: 10-17-17
This is a 'prequel' to SCIONS by the same author, and is a better story I think. There was a lot more plot to chew on, and some twists and turns that kept me guessing. My favorite part was actually the 'B-plot': the 'not exactly a buddy-cop movie' between Caraway (the tough-guy police detective) and Colonel Gan (the tough-guy soldier). This one has even more of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos stuff in.
The narrator did a fine job. The cast is big, but he made the voices distinct enough that I never had trouble knowing who was speaking, and the voice-acting was good during the more intense and emotional scenes.

Classic Pulp-Hero Vs. Cthulhoid Pulp-Horros
Revisado: 07-02-17
I first discovered the Green Lama through another audio-book 'Green Lama: Mystic Warrior', a collection of shorter stories by various authors, and with the same narrator. I liked it well enough to follow it to 'Scions', and I'm glad I did! Garcia's version of the classic characters is simultaneously true to the 'feel' of the old pulp novels of the 30s,but with some interesting twists and expansions that will engage modern readers, such as lightly touching on social issues like racism and persecution of LGBTQ people.). Fans of H.P. Lovecraft will be pleased by the inclusion of content from his famous Cthulhu Mythos, which I gather continues throughout the series. Once the action gets started (which doesn't take too long) it never stops, and the combination of derring-do, cliffhangers, and gory/horrific imagery kept me up listening past my bedtime. The bad-guys are REALLY bad, and how they pursue their awful goals will likely creep you out. The sound quality is pretty good, and the narrator's voice-acting is excellent : the various characters are distinct with unique voices, and the more intense emotional scenes are handled with vividness without being too over-the-top. My favorite character-portrayals were Caraway (the tough-guy detective), Jean (the actress turned daredevil adventuress), and of course the Lama himself (with a fierce passion for justice simmering under the serene calmness). I plan to listen to the rest of the series as it comes out.

Historia
Retired from his fighting days, John Perry is now village ombudsman for a human colony on distant Huckleberry. With his wife, former Special Forces warrior Jane Sagan, he farms several acres, adjudicates local disputes, and enjoys watching his adopted daughter grow up. That is, until his and Jane's past reaches out to bring them back into the game — as leaders of a new human colony, to be peopled by settlers from all the major human worlds, for a deep political purpose that will put Perry and Sagan back in the thick of interstellar politics, betrayal, and war.

Any additional comments?
A good read/listen. John Perry, the protag of 'Old Man's War', is back. We pick up his story (and that of his wife Jane Sagan, and his adopted daughter Zoe) as they leave a staid and bucolic life on an established colony-world for a new adventure: establishing a brand-new settlement on a fresh, unknown planet... and that's just the beginning. The plot twists and convolutes greatly, and you wind up at an ending you would never have guessed at the beginning, but which makes perfect sense regardless.
I like the narrator: his style is mostly wryly-humorous, which makes his turns into seriousness and deep emotion that much more effective. He makes the character voices fairly distinctive too, so it's easy to know who is speaking.

I <3 the character of Ahsoka...

... so this was an easy book to like. The plot wasn't s very deep, but it was a good, medium-paced SW adventure yarn and very enjoyable. It did a good job of explainng and fleshing out some aspects of Ahsoka's life between the end of the "Clone Wars' show and her appearance as a mature adult on 'Star Wars Rebels.'The narrator is the actress who voices Ahsoka in the shows,so of course she sounds PERFECT. She does a pretty good job making the other characters unique and distinct, tooThis is the first audiobook I've listened to that makes much use of sound-effects and music. I thought the music was used to good effect to set mood, but actually found the use of the SFX (beeping droids, whooshing spaceships, humming lightsabers, etc)a little distracting and annoying at times.

How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history? I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old. Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you don't know my tale: How I did what I did—how I did what I had to do—not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too.

If you've already read/listened 'The Last Colony', then know that this is mostly about the same events from teen Zoe's POV.... which doesn't mean there are no surprises. The girl and her friends were up to some stuff that her father never knew about :). Getting into her thoughts was good, and expanded character greatly, of course. The narration was excellent. My only quibble is that she needs to work on her male voices a little more to be convincing. But otherwise her voice-acting is first rate.

In John Scalzi's best-selling Old Man's War series of science-fiction novels, we see this warrior woman as the other characters see her - silent and strong, from the outside. But now The Sagan Diary shows us Sagan from another point of view: her own, as she prepares to leave military life and join her new husband and adopted daughter on a colony world.

This isn't really a 'story', in the usual sense: nothing actually happens, although events in earlier books are alluded to. This is more of a reflective meditation on Jane Saga's life as she prepares to change it utterly. It made me think about my own life and identity in new ways, which I value. For all the depth of emotion and thought, it is often also surprisingly funny

A GOOD, SEXY, KINKY ROMANCE! BETTER THAN THE FIRST.
Revisado: 04-09-17
I like this story even more than book1. The 2 protagagonists were more likeable, and despite their darkk-and-angsty backgrounds their BDSM romps were lighter and more playful, without the possibly problematic non consensual aspects of the 1st book. The inevitable romance was sweet and affecting. Best of all, the book fleshes out the SciFi setting some more, and significantly advances what is shaping up to be an epic space-opera adventure plot arc for the remaining six books in the series
The narrator was very good, even if his pace is a bit slow. His voice acting is top notch though: the characters are all very distinct and he manages to convey deep emotions without being too melodramatic\over-the-top.

Good, but not for everyone.
Revisado: 03-24-17
I liked the story a lot... but don't go into this thinking of it as a real sci-fi book; on that level it is rather lacking. what this book IS is a kinky BDSM romance with a sci-fi setting: the spaceships and laser guns are just window dressing. But the sexy scenes are hot, and the romance is actually sweet and touching as it unfolds. Also be warned that this book has a lot of noncommercial sex and BDSM in it... if this squicks/triggers you even in make-believe then AVOID.
The narration... I almost didn't buy this one because several reviews were very negative about the narrator, but I changed my mind when I noticed the Performance rating had many more 4 and 5 star ratings than 1s. His reading pace is a bit slow, but that's OK. I though he made the different characters very distinct : even when 4 or 5 uberalpha males with deep voices are all talking I could follow who was who pretty well. His voice acting isn't really unemotional, it's more like 'subtle' or 'understated' instead of melodramatic. The angry characters aren't enraged or berserk, the scared ones aren't hysterically terrified, etc. Overall I liked the reading.
It ends with what is obviously a lead in to the next book, which I will probably get.
