Omg it’s covid fiction already

I enjoyed this book and had literally no idea what I was getting into because it was picked out for a book club. That said, very early I was like Tookie and Benji? What are we on the rez? Yes, we were. Should’ve known from the author. Then I thought it was a prison book. Then a supernatural book. Finally a BLM (from AIM perspective) and COVID book. No, it’s everything all in one. I enjoyed it a lot.

Apocalypse book without rape & a happy ending!

I love dystopian and apocalypse books. That said, the amount of unnecessary sexual assault in them is frustrating. Rape is not a plot point. It doesn’t make your story deeper.

Anyhoo, back to this book. It has a happy ending, yeah! Definitely a good read.

Somewhat disjointed & dissatisfactory sequel

While I am pleased to learn about how Gilead implodes, the story kept me captivated, and the readers were wonderful, it just isn’t a great sequel. It’s a good sequel. I feel somewhat resolved, but the storytelling was disjointed and the parts I wanted to know weren’t always there, more about destruction and less about academics would’ve be fine with me.

Spy-family-romance novel

Too much about a sad old man liking young women

I like David Spade and he is funny, but far too much of this book is about him being single and trying to date women that a 50 year old just shouldn’t. It was maybe 20-30 minutes funny, not 3.5-4 hours funny. Just date someone closer to your own age (35+ min.) and you may actually understand each other!

Powerful fictionalization of domestic violence

I like to think less of the supernatural aspects of this story and more about the inter-generational aspects of family violence - that children of moms who experience domestic violence are more likely to experience or perpetrate it themselves. Great listen.
