Warm and Delightful
Revisado: 03-10-23
No, it's not another No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency-like series, but it is at least in the same vein in that it's warm and charming, with detailed character study. Thoughtful and gently humorous, with lovely bits of philosophical thought sprinkled throughout. Enjoyable narrator.

Most books on ADHD don't dare expose the genuine grit of the moment-by-moment peaks and valleys of this special parenthood - the gut-wrenching, crying on the bathroom floor, feeling like you're losing your mind truth of the matter that is learning to successfully parent a child with ADHD. Boy Without Instructions: Surviving the Learning Curve of Parenting a child with ADHD changes that. A Memoir, Not A Guide
Revisado: 01-26-21
An intimate memoir of a mother's struggle with her child's ADHD. Reads more as a personal journal than a guidebook for other parents, so keep that in mind. There are definitely some touching and authentic moments, though rather unpolished in structure and writing style. The narrator speaks clearly, but her voice quickly becomes monotonous, and she has a depressing vibe. There aren't many peaks and valleys in her tone. I don't know that I would recommend this audiobook to others unless they are simply looking for shared experiences in their parenting journey.

Historia
Once upon a time.... There is a girl with skin as fair as ivory and hair as black as night. She was the apple of her father's eye, but now that he has died, someone wants to dip that apple into poison. Advised to flee, Ivory escapes her elite world in New York City and stumbles into a place she didn't know existed. A modern-day princess, afraid and lost on the dark streets, running for her life. Ivory White has no one to call, nowhere to turn. All she has is a random number scrawled on a torn napkin. She calls. He answers.

Clever Modern-Day Retelling of Snow White
Revisado: 01-25-21
A clever take on Snow White set in modern-day NYC, with a surprise twist at the end! Thoroughly enjoyed both the story and narration. The "Ivory" character is a good-hearted snob who falls for a rather rough Prince Charming. It's a fun and well-paced romance with a whole lotta heart.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Light Pandemic Fantasy Novel
Revisado: 01-06-21
Is this heavy-hitting fantasy? No. Is it an interesting listen? Sure. I enjoyed the world-building details and emotional depth Ms. Roberts lent her characters, though there were so many of them over such a large span of time that none was given much of a chance to develop, emotionally. The narrator did a fine job, but struggled in several places to differentiate the male voices. I only felt confused a few times, though, and her pace and diction were excellent, so please do give this book a chance.

Historia
Why is religion still around in the 21st century? Why do so many still believe? And how do various traditions still shape the way people experience everything from sexuality to politics, whether they are religious or not? In Why Religion? Elaine Pagels looks to her own life to help address these questions. Drawing upon the perspectives of neurologists, anthropologists, and historians, as well as her own research, Pagels opens unexpected ways of understanding persistent religious aspects of our culture.

Moving Story Powerfully Told
Revisado: 01-06-21
An incredibly moving personal story written beautifully and with great emotional and intellectual depth. In asking universal questions about suffering and weaving in her quest for meaning, Dr. Pagel shows us a way to accept the unknowable in life. A must-listen for anyone dealing with grief and seeking answers both inside and outside the traditional structure of religion.

Delightful and Charming Cozy Mystery, Well Told
Revisado: 11-18-20
Full of warmth and charm, with lots of character and setting details that make the story come alive. The narrator has a lovely warm voice, with plenty of depth for the male characters but also some lighter voices for the ladies. I enjoyed listening, and I wasn't able to figure out the killer until near the end of the book! Highly recommend.

Beautifully Written and Beautifully Told
Revisado: 11-13-20
This is a wonderful fantasy story with many realistic elements of a modern family and community. Mandy, the young heroine, learns that love and heroism take many different forms. Excellent for children, and the narrator voiced it with lovely variation in character voices and consistency across the novel. Highly recommend.

Historia
Chelsea King was a popular high school senior, an outstanding achiever determined to make a difference. Fourteen-year-old Amber Dubois loved books and poured her heart into the animals for which she cared. Treasured by their families and friends, both girls disappeared in San Diego County, just eight miles and one year apart. The community's desperate search led authorities to John Albert Gardner, a brutal predator hiding in plain sight. Now Pulitzer-nominated author Caitlin Rother delivers an incisive, heartbreaking true-life thriller that touches our deepest fears.

Intense True Crime Done Well
Revisado: 11-13-20
Richly detailed true crime story on a San Diego serial killer. It was interesting to hear the details of his family, medical history, and personal life, as well as the legal details surrounding his capture and subsequent court case. The narrator kept my interest, even through the passages with more technical/medical language, and I found her easy to listen to and very clear.

Carolyn's not so different from the other human beings around her. After all, she was a normal American herself once. That was a long time ago, of course - before the time she calls "adoption day", when she and a dozen other children found themselves being raised by a man they learned to call Father.

This Isn't A Story You've Heard Before
Revisado: 10-07-20
Incredibly creative story and overall well-told. The build-up to the central battle was so interesting and so exciting, I had a hard time pressing pause to partake in my normal daily life. Post-battle...I felt the storyline was a bit of a let-down. Still creative, still interesting, but the action seemed to slow to a crawl, and some of that may be due to the narrator's choices. She did a really wonderful job on the whole, but I would have appreciated some pacing differences -- slower or faster -- as the scene dictated, instead of the exact same pace, no matter the action level in the story. But I'm being incredibly picky! Ms. Huber gave a nuanced vocal performance, and her character voices remained consistent and consistently interesting throughout, both male and female. Fabulous audiobook.
