Best story I've read in a long time. I can't remember the last time I was so anxious to see how the story ended. I wish William Landay had more books published. I'll read every one I can find.

Writing was amateurish and unsophisticated. Characters were not very intelligent people who made stupid choices. Terrible, unsatisfying ending.

I could buy into the scientific concept of halting aging. But the characters had no depth and I couldn't be persuaded to care about them. The first death knell for the book happened when the CIA agent wore a pair of glasses with no lenses as a disguise (because no one would EVER notice that). The second and final bell tolled when the misogynist rich guy with the yacht said he likes female captains for his boat because of the "side benefits" they bring. That's it--I'm done.

Interesting story. But I always struggle when the narrator mispronounces words. He said "bleeth" for blithe, pronounced nascent with a short A, and repeatedly pronounced remuneration as renumeration. (Is that what it's called when you renumber something??) Call me crazy, but shouldn't a narrator have a good command of the language?

A simplistic story told in a simplistic style. I'm sticking with Preston and Child.

Good story, although I was disappointed that it started out so similarly to The Memory Man. Kyf Brewer did a fine job. I don't care for Orlagh Cassidy. Her regular speaking voice is fine, but she doesn't do accents well, particularly when she attempts a NY/NJ accent. Worth listening to, though.

This is the first Simon Wood book I've read/listened to. Based on the reviews, I expected more. The pace of the story was good, and it moved along nicely. But the characters--cops, criminals and victims alike--were none too bright. If you've ever watched one detective show on TV in your whole life, you're smarter than these people. The narrator did an OK job, although I don't really understand why they picked a British narrator when all the characters were Americans. There was one California cop named Santiago. The narrator portrayed him with a Hispanic accent that sounded closer to Russian. I found that very distracting. Langton's mispronunciation of "Marin" County was also annoying. No more Simon Wood for me.

Any additional comments?

This was my first book by Coonts and also the first time I've heard Guerin Barry. Barry did an adequate job as narrator, but it's hard to shine when the material you're reading is so cheesy. Coonts' writing style was difficult to listen to. It sounded like a dime store detective novel. It lacked the sophistication of Preston & Childs and the plot twists of Harlan Coben. I plodded through to the end, but I won't make the effort in the future.

No more Angela Dawe--EVER

Any additional comments?

Excellent story, one of Coben's best. That's the only reason I was able to get all the way through to the end. Angela Dawe has made my list of narrators to be avoided at all cost. Her annoying speech patterns are so distracting that I actually missed parts of the story. I didn't realize it was possible to pronounce "in" as a two-syllable word, but Ms. Dawe manages to do it. And every time she said "now," I cringed. Going forward, if I see a book with her as narrator, I will go with the print version and avoid the audio.

I've read a lot of Coben's books and found this one pretty forgettable. Not very imaginative and none of the characters really grabbed me.
