Historia
The Little Sleep is Paul Tremblay’s nod to Raymond Chandler starring a PI who nods off. Mark Genevich is a South Boston private detective who happens to have a severe form of narcolepsy, which includes hypnagogic hallucinations, like waking dreams. Unsurprisingly, his practice is not exactly booming. Then one day, the daughter of an ambitious district attorney and a contestant on the reality talent show American Star named Jennifer Times comes to him for help - or does she? A man has stolen her fingers, she claims, and she’d like Genevich to get them back.

Historia
For best friends with vastly different fortunes, what’s left to hash out other than a forced confession at gunpoint? All that the destitute, sickly, and grieving Will demands is that monstrously successful Barry admit to draining all the luck right out of him. Like blood. As the standoff escalates, the truth is not the only thing ready to come out.

This is a good story. A little cheesy, not too serious. More a campfire story but still a really fun read!

Historia
Back in the summer of 1988, a young Richard Chizmar was catapulted into the center of a living nightmare as the serial killer Joshua Gallagher—dubbed by the media as “The Boogeyman”—stalked his tranquil Maryland town. A lot has changed in the intervening years. These days, Chizmar enjoys a certain level of celebrity and notoriety himself, being the only person that an incarcerated Josh Gallagher will speak to on or off the record.

Always impressed with Richard Chizmar
Revisado: 12-24-23
This book has so much truth and so much fiction that you have to wonder which parts are true and which are fiction!
Excellent character building, tension, and suspense.
One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors.
Cliffhangers aren't so bad when you know there's already something in the works!
Performance wasn't bad, a few regional accents seemed wrong but still not bad.
I will probably listen again. I love hearing things I missed the first time around.

When Louise finds out her parents have died, she dreads going home. She doesn’t want to leave her daughter with her ex and fly to Charleston. She doesn’t want to deal with her family home, stuffed to the rafters with the remnants of her father’s academic career and her mother’s lifelong obsession with puppets and dolls. She doesn’t want to learn how to live without the two people who knew and loved her best in the world. Most of all, she doesn’t want to deal with her brother, Mark, who never left their hometown, gets fired from one job after another, and resents her success.

Not as good as I expect from Grady
Revisado: 07-22-23
I've come to expect a few of his characters to remain annoying throughout the stories. That's ok, it's the way he does it. I always assumed that was the intent.
But this group of characters are hard to love. I kept waiting for one to stand out and make me proud, but it never happened.
I like Mark, but not at first, but at no time do I like Louise, or Luis, or however the narrator decides she wants to say it at any given moment.
I didn't Love the idea of hand puppets being the villains, but they are and they're as annoying as you could imagine they'd be.
The narrator/narrators read this story like they were reading to children who aren't really paying attention to the story and they're just trying to get it over with. I started listening when it came out, but I just finished this yesterday (7/21) because I kept finding other things to read. I finally finished it, but only because I paid for it and I didn't want to waste my money.
I don't like Poppy at all. That kid is annoying. It's not her fault though, that's all the bad parenting and coddling and unnecessarily over protective shielding by Louise.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except maybe a teenager, or something to read during a campfire ghost story, but not if you are true a horror fan. This is more Goosebumps than Creep Show.
Pretty disappointing story from someone I've learned to love through books like My Best Friend's Exorcism, We Sold Our Souls, The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, Final Girl Support Group, and Horrorstör.
I just hope his next novel isn't quite so disappointing.

The narration can be a little hesitant at times, but the story is still great.
Dealing with abuse is different for every individual who has endured it.
This is a powerful story of overcoming and/or living with the knowledge of it.

Historia
Evan Michaels struggles with being different, with having the complete memories of two other people who lived sequentially before him. He fights loneliness and believes he is unique until he meets Poppy. She recognizes his struggle because she is like him, except that she is much older, remembering seven consecutive lives. But there is something else she must share with Evan - she is a member of the secretive Cognomina. They are, in effect, immortals - compiling experiences and skills over lifetimes into near superhuman abilities that they have used to drive history over centuries.

I had a hard time believing this was his debut novel because it's written so well.
Looking forward to Mr. Maikranz's future works.

Revisado: 07-04-22
This book is very haunting. Quite disturbing. Heartbreaking. You hope for the best but you'll be completely disappointed. There's no happy ending. There's nothing good about the what comes after.
This is a nonstop, balls to the wall, unrelenting story of unending terror with zero consequences that will make you hate kids!
One of the best stories presented in such a way that is frustrating yet satisfying. Why hasn't anyone made this into a movie?

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Fantastic story!
Revisado: 05-29-22
I rarely write reviews about good books. But this is a fantastic story! Well structured and narrated. Each character is represented uniquely and it's almost like there was a different narrator for each one. Jonas Jonasson is a writer I'm going to have to keep an eye on.
Just wonderful!

I expected so much more from Grady Hendrix
Revisado: 01-29-22
I was really excited to own this book. I've loved everything I've read from Mr Hendrix up until this book.
The narrator did a great job, but you can only work with what you have.
The story was annoyingly slow at times. Too many details like it was trying to give you something to think about but then not all of the details mattered later in the book.
I hated Heather and the way everyone treated Lynette. Hated the breaks in the story to give back stories on seemingly insignificant details.
Listen if you want but I don't love this book.

Fantastic novel
Revisado: 12-31-21
Just when I think I've read the best Stephen King book, I read another one that's the best Stephen King book.
This is one of the best novels that hasn't become a movie yet in a long time.
The character development, twists and turns, and surprises are classic Stephen King. Wireman becomes my favorite character and then one of the best characters I believe King has ever created.
This needs to become a movie or a limited series ASAFP!
