Historia
Anna Maria has only known life inside the Pietà, an orphanage for children born of prostitutes. But the girls of the Pietà are lucky in a sense: most babies born of their station were drowned in the city’s canals. And despite the strict rules, the girls are given singing and music lessons from an early age. The most promising musicians have the chance to escape the fate of the rest: forced marriage to anyone who will have them.

Women’s Role in History Ignored- Once Again
Revisado: 04-19-25
Reinforced my appreciation and frustration at how women’s role in history has been intentionally lessened or obliterated.

Historia
The case is a macabre, ritualistic murder—a teen-aged boy from a wealthy family whose body was found without a drop of blood left in it. But the murder is just the start. A high-ranking executive and daughter of one of the richest men in Spain is kidnapped, a crime which is tied to the previous murder. Behind them both is a hidden mastermind with even more sinister plans. And the only person with a chance to see the connections, solve the crimes and successfully match wits with the killer before tragedy strikes again...is Antonia Scott.

A Thriller Ruined by the Narrator
Revisado: 07-03-24
Well, it was a thriller as promised by the reviews. However, I listened to it on audiobook and forgot just how much I dislike Scott Brick as a narrator. He has a stilted manner, over emphasizes every other word, and ends up in a sing-song cadence. Plus all his dialogue seems tinged with low level anger - not what I really want right now.
The story was good, but not great, and a bit too much violence for me. I doubt I'll read another book by this author. And given the positive reviews by critics, I had suggested the book to our book club. So, I'll be interested in seeing if those who actually read the book will have a different perspective than I who listened to a non-inspiring narrator.

Historia
In Rethinking Narcissism listeners will learn that there's far more to narcissism than its reductive invective would imply. The truth is that narcissists (all of us) fall on a spectrum somewhere between utter selflessness on the one side and arrogance and grandiosity on the other. A healthy middle exhibits a strong sense of self.

Good Info on Narcissism Spectrum But Missing ,pdf
Revisado: 03-10-23
Good, easy to understand, and provided a fuller appreciation of the breadth of narcissim spectrum. However, the audio version promised a .pdf of the narcissim spectrum test for self-assessment that is not available through Audlble. I checked online at the author's site, checked more broadly through Google, but cannot find any other place where this test is available. Audible, please secure the .pdf that goes with this audio book.

Historia
A provocative and positive response to Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and other New Atheists, Good Without God makes a bold claim for what nonbelievers do share and believe. Epstein's Good Without God provides a constructive, challenging response to these manifestos by getting to the heart of Humanism and its positive belief in tolerance, community, morality, and good without having to rely on the guidance of a higher being.

Great book, terrible narration
Revisado: 09-12-21
Excellent book and a great resource for understanding more about humanism. However the narration was, to say the least, uninspiring. At first I thought the monotonous voice was computer-generated. But apparently he is human - and should refrain from further audiobook narrations.

Totally Annoying Narrator
Revisado: 12-01-11
The story was good but a little wearying by the end. Perhaps I may have been more enthralled by the story if not for the narrator. He read with a sing-song cadence throughout. It was really an effort to continue through the third part of the novel and I found myself literally hating the voice of the narrator by the end. But having had so much time invested after the first two sections I wanted to finish the story. I will not purchase another book read by this narrator.
