Historia
Disability is not just the story of someone we love or the story of whom we may become; rather it is undoubtedly the story of our nation. Covering the entirety of US history from pre-1492 to the present, A Disability History of the United States is the first audiobook to place the experiences of people with disabilities at the center of the American narrative. In many ways, it’s a familiar telling. In other ways, however, it is a radical repositioning of US history. By doing so, the book casts new light on familiar stories, such as

A valuable history textbook
Revisado: 01-26-23
I tend to prefer more concept or narrative, driven books, and while this text contains elements of both, it is primarily a history textbook. It contains an element of that dry name and date-based style that turns a lot of people off of history early in their education. It’s a good book, it just wasn’t what I was looking for precisely at the time.

Exiled by her despotic brother, princess Malini spends her days dreaming of vengeance while imprisoned in the Hirana: an ancient cliffside temple that was once the revered source of the magical deathless waters but is now little more than a decaying ruin. The secrets of the Hirana call to Priya. But in order to keep the truth of her past safely hidden, she works as a servant in the loathed regent’s household, biting her tongue and cleaning Malini’s chambers.

A story worth savoring
Revisado: 10-09-22
Exquisite world building interwoven among intricate and elegant plots and subplots, I lost two days reading this book. Never before have I found a romance so relatable. Unlike most stories, its existence did not feel like a stale requirement shoehorned in for the sake of crowdpleasing, but featured characters who maintained their own senses of self, goals and boundaries, yet or perfectly in tune with each other in a truly magical way. My only complaint was that the pacing of the end was a little odd, but the author managed to deliver on several subverted expectations.

Definitely will read more than once
Revisado: 08-25-22
I’ve been a fan of the authors podcast, Before Breakfast, for a little over a year now. I don’t know why it took me this long to figure out and find books she had written, but I’m so glad I finally did. The first read through gives you a great comprehensive overview of all of her time management Theories and tips. I expect the second read through, when I’ve had some time to absorb her ideas, will help me put more of them into practice. Like Laura, I no longer believe I have to sacrifice joy in order to have a full career and thriving family. I know how she does it, too.

Hilarious and relaxing and inspiring
Revisado: 08-24-22
The only improvement I could suggest for this book would be a short glossary of botanical terms, such as those used to describe the shape of leaves. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this book. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and would definitely book a foraging tour with the author if I got the chance.

Everything you could ever want from a memoir
Revisado: 08-23-22
I had read the authors novel a couple years ago and loved it. Intrigued by this new title, I expected another novel. I have it often read memoirs, but once I started this one I couldn’t put it down. I wasn’t disappointed by my mistake, but so much more intrigued and inspired because of it. The author has a gift for storytelling, whether it’s a work of fiction or reminiscences of incredible lives. Her lyrical prose draws you in, her narrative style presents a beautiful world full of its imperfections and opportunities that I now long to visit for myself.

Historia
Talia could scarcely believe that she had finally earned the rank of full Herald. Though this seemed like the fulfillment of all her dreams, it also meant she would face trials far greater than those she had previously survived. For now, Talia must ride forth to patrol the kingdom of Valdemar, dispensing Herald's justice throughout the land. But in this realm beset by dangerous unrest, enforcing her rulings will require all the courage and skill Talia could command - for if she misuses her own special powers, both she and Valdemar will pay the price.

A good, relaxing read
Revisado: 07-27-22
It’s often said that second books in series aren’t very good, just bits you have to get through to get to the next good book. This does not hold true for arrows flight. It’s typical Mercedes Lackey, witty and lyrical. On a personal note, I wish there weren’t as many sex scenes, but they are not embarrassingly graphic. It’s a sweet adventure with likable characters and a comfortable, satisfying arc.
