Relic, the first in the Agent Pendergast series, is by far the best of Pendergast book published so far, even after more than two decades. What could be more chilling than a mythical beast loose in one of the largest, most prominent museums in the world, and the building horror and suspense as those around it realize the creature is anything but a myth. The beast’s fascinating origins and the detailed (albeit outlandish at times) scientific research the book’s author embued in the plot are reminiscent of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park (another excellent thrill ride), at least for me. The book also introduces repeat characters Bill Smithback, D’Agosta, and Margo Green who appear in subsequent novels.

I do wish the narrator performed the other titles in this series. He made a genuine effort to actually perform, not just read, the book. Each of the voices were distinct and each character felt like they had their own personalities. Pendergast’s voice was a less Southern genteel than I imagined initially, but by the end of the audiobook I’d come to accept it and it worked. I also appreciated the sound effects scattered throughout, such as the echoing voices in the distant and the walkie talkie crackling.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Whisker of Trouble to be better than the print version?

Yes

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator brings to life each character by giving them distinct voices and personalities. You can't get that from merely reading the book.

Any additional comments?

Recommend this series for anyone who enjoys a cast of kooky and fun characters.

Would you consider the audio edition of Die Like an Eagle to be better than the print version?

Yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

Meg's grandfather, whose cranky, over the top Crocodile Hunter personality makes him such fun.

Have you listened to any of Bernadette Dunne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Dunne is consistently good as a narrator and "performs" each character rather than reads in a monotone.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Baseball can be murder

Any additional comments?

Another good story from Andrews filled with fun characters.

Would you consider the audio edition of No Cats Allowed to be better than the print version?

Yes

What did you like best about this story?

Charlie is unlike the majority of cozy mystery sleuths. Besides having an oversized, lovable sidekick who's a Maine Coon, Charlie has brains and a good sense of self preservation. He solves the mystery but relies on Kenesha and the police to bring the culprit to justice. It's so refreshing to not have the main character not put himself into unnecessary harm's way by stupidly confronting the villain by himself. The other characters in the series - Melba, Azalea, and Stuart are quite enjoyable too.

What about Erin Bennett’s performance did you like?

The narrator for this series does a good job of bring Charlie, Diesel and the other characters to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Cant't wait for the next adventure of Charlie and Diesel!
