Historia
At ten years old, Chelsea opened a lemonade stand and realized she’d make more money if the drinks were spiked. So she added vodka to her recipe and used her earnings to upgrade herself to first-class on a family vacation—leaving her parents and siblings in coach. She moved to Los Angeles and got fired from her temp job when she admitted she didn’t know how to transfer calls. She’s played pickleball with the scions of an American dynasty. She’s sexted a governor. She shared psychedelics with strangers in Spain.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Loved it!
Revisado: 04-17-24
I am so glad I trusted the reviews and bought this one! So good, such a delight and wonderfully narrated!
For context, my last few have been The Women, James and the Silent Patient - all of which I loved. This one was a lighter book but still just as fantastic!

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Complex, heart-wrenching & absolutely outstanding
Revisado: 02-12-24
I have been patiently waiting for Kristin Hannah's newest book for months, performed by the ever marvelous Julia Whelan, and it did not disappoint. Hannah displays her incredible talent once again by navigating through the complexities of the Vietnam war in a poignant, truly heart-wrenching and historically accurate way through the eyes of women. As someone who was born shortly after the war ended, I have only the collective knowledge of my country (USA), documentaries, movies and the more detailed accounts of those I know who fought in the war. Listening to this book has opened my eyes to the another side of the war, the profound and deep pain to those who served and the country to which they returned. I am still reeling from the journey my mind and heart have gone through listening to this book over the last few days and I know I will listen to it again. Another incredible book by Hannah and outstanding performance by Whelan. Thank you for creating this incredibly important and beautiful piece of work.

Historia
As one of the most celebrated musicians in the world, Alicia Keys has enraptured the globe with her heartfelt lyrics, extraordinary vocal range, and soul-stirring piano compositions. Yet away from the spotlight, Alicia has grappled with private heartache - over the challenging and complex relationship with her father, the people-pleasing nature that characterized her early career, the loss of privacy surrounding her romantic relationships, and the oppressive expectations of female perfection.

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie. I’m excited to share my story with you. Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed. But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL.

Revisado: 01-20-24
This book is HILARIOUS but also inspirational, unique and heartfelt. I've always loved Leslie Jones and this book makes me love her even more. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her talk about her long rise to fame, her tenacity and her struggles along the way. I tend to listen to "heavy" books and needed something to funny and this was PERFECT. Highly recommend!!

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Outstanding
Revisado: 10-08-23
One review I read described this book as a modern classic and I wholeheartedly agree. For me, this book checks all the boxes: compelling yet heartbreaking story, outstanding narrator and an epic tale where I learned so much from the world of Demon Copperhead. It has helped me understand the world from which he comes with more depth and compassion.
Simply outstanding. Highly recommend.

Beloved by her fans, special to the poet’s own heart, Mary Oliver’s dog poems offer a special window into her world. Mary Oliver’s Dog Songs is a celebration of the special bond between human and dog, as understood through the poet’s relationships to the canines that have accompanied her daily walks, warmed her home, and inspired her work. In A Thousand Mornings, Mary Oliver returns to the imagery that has come to define her life’s work, transporting us to the marshland and coastline of her beloved home, Provincetown, Massachusetts.

There are no spaces between the poems
Revisado: 01-14-23
I sincerely wanted to just fall in love with this book but I found it difficult to listen to as the poems are read almost continuously. I hope the produces find a way to place a (greater) space between the poems. Love that it is read by the author and of course, her poetry is magic.
