Historia
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Very engaging!!
Revisado: 08-28-24
Lots of twists and turns with a satisfying ending. The character and relationship development follows a natural building pattern. Time passed in a realistic and nonchalant way. The narrator has a lovely voice, which makes a very enjoyable listen!

Historia
Stephen Aston is getting married again. The only problem is, he's still married to his first wife, even though she is in a care facility for dementia. But he'll take care of that easily, by divorcing her—even if his adult daughters protest. Tully and Rachel Aston look upon Heather as nothing but an interloper. Heather is the same age as Rachel and even younger than Tully. Clearly she's a gold digger and after their father's money. Heather has secrets that she's keeping close, and reasons of her own for wanting to marry Stephen.

Loses steam
Revisado: 08-18-24
*spoilers*
The storylines of both daughters are half baked. A dubious “bad investment” ruining Tully’s life (which goes completely unexplained) could have been more compelling with her wrestling with relationship concerns around the money/control of Sonny. Rachel’s storyline of being BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL but celibate due to sexual assault, until of course a perfect, extremely handsome man comes into the picture and cures her, is quite tone deaf. The Darcy character as a whole is extremely shallow, and lacks any real value to the story. Similarly to the “bad investment”, we do got get any resolution to the assault. Other than being the supposed reason for her later eating disorder, it served zero purpose, and was told with a very shallow/cliched lens. Stevens gaslighting was also poorly written, for it to be believable, us as the readers should be mystified and questioning the truth. Simply making the women “confused” about wether or not they were strangled is just ridiculous.
All in all it’s a decent storyline, I just wish more effort had gone into revisions. Building out the characters more fully would have helped a lot. Heather and Rachel specifically lacked depth.

Classic mystery/drama with plenty of intrigue. The ending is tied up a little too well for my liking, but that’s typical of this kind of book

But, as the Christmas Eve party is in full swing, the unthinkable happens—Ruth drops the baby, injuring the little boy. Or did she? Historia
Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Lacks depth
Revisado: 09-25-23
The storyline was decently interesting, but packed in too many “twists” and was unrealistic. There was lack of depth in every character and situation. It was entertaining enough, but would have been better as a series that would allow for multiple books to achieve more natural depth.
