It has a been a long time since I read this story, perhaps 30 years. Listening to it as an audiobook was a new experience and very welcome.
Harrison has created an amazing world in this series with some very interesting concepts. Truly an original idea.

Historia
Sixty-five million years ago, a disastrous cataclysm eliminated three quarters of all life on Earth. Overnight, the age of dinosaurs ended. The age of mammals had begun. But what if history had happened differently? What if the reptiles had survived to evolve into intelligent life? In West of Eden, best-selling author Harry Harrison has created a rich, dramatic saga of a world where the descendants of the dinosaurs struggled with a clan of humans in a battle for survival.

The character-building is excellent. Harrison really shows his writing chops in this series with his work-building and storytelling. The voice work by Christian Rummel is also perfect. Very good production value in this audiobook.

Fantastic story, narration could be improved
Revisado: 01-09-24
The Amber novels are a stand-out series and the first series had excellent narration. Wil does a great job as Merlin in this second series but he does not really change his voice much to accommodate all the different characters. He’s gotten better as he has been narrating the second series but he still needs to improve a lot. His Mandor , Bill and Jasra characters were good but none of the other characters really stand out. Julien and Random are just… Wil Wheaton.
I hope the next two are better.

Wil did a better job on this one, adding some more depth to the characters with his narration. He still needs to work on making the different characters more distinctive. Hopefully the later novels narrated by him will improve in this regard.

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

I like the conversational format and the frank descriptions of David’s life. Adam did a great job narrating the main parts of the book.
Definitely things to learn from David’s life. Perhaps the most important thing is to not underestimate our own potential.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

An excellent historical account of Grant’s Amazing Life
Revisado: 08-23-23
The narration and writing are excellent. This is one of the most captivating historical biographical books I have ever read. Chernow reveals the good and bad of Grant’s life and reveals him to be a profoundly ethical human being dropped into some profoundly terrifying situations. You really get a sense of Grant’s character as well as his reasons for his many decisions in life.
Highly recommended.

Historia
Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.
