Historia
Douglas Murray, #1 international bestselling author and renowned cultural commentator, confronts arguably the most pressing question of our time: Why are Western supporters of Palestine unwittingly aligning with an evil empire? The campus left frames the violent hostilities as white colonialists committing genocide. Yet only a third of Israelis are Ashkenazi Jews of European ancestry. Murray argues that the conflict is not a simple tale of oppressor versus oppressed, but a clash between a thriving multi-racial democracy and a death cult bent on its destruction.

Inspiring reflection on recent events
Revisado: 05-03-25
Murray’s account of the tragic events in the Middle East is gripping and thought-provoking. While much of the book focuses on the horrors of October 7th and the follies of international diplomacy and its machinations, his clear conscience shines through. Amid the darkness, he reveals moments of resilience and hope. His final reflections on how Western civilization might save itself are sincere and heartfelt. Highly recommended.

Historia
On June 22, 1936, the philosopher Moritz Schlick was on his way to deliver a lecture at the University of Vienna when Johann Nelböck, a deranged former student of Schlick's, shot him dead on the university steps. Some Austrian newspapers defended the madman, while Nelböck himself argued in court that his onetime teacher had promoted a treacherous Jewish philosophy. David Edmonds traces the rise and fall of the Vienna Circle - an influential group of brilliant thinkers led by Schlick.

A brilliant amalgamation of history and philosophy
Revisado: 04-06-25
The book gives a satisfactory overview of the lives of the members of the Vienna circle, and the historical circumstances in which it operated. While not focusing so much on philosophy per se, it presents the circle’s philosophy in a detailed and clear way, which could be easily understood.

A fascinating insider’s look
Revisado: 01-09-24
This is a historically significant first hand account of foreign policy decision making. The book details some of the most important developments in the Middle East through the lens of American politics and its ties with the state of Israel. It offers insight on the region and on the key players in it, and its conclusions are as relevant as ever.

Historia
The Palestinian Delusion is unique in situating the Israeli/Palestinian conflict within the context of the global jihad that has found renewed impetus in the latter portion of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. Briskly recounting the tumultuous history of the "peace process", Robert Spencer demonstrates that the determination of diplomats, policymakers, and negotiators to ignore this aspect of the conflict has led the Israelis, the Palestinians, and the world down numerous blind alleys. This has often only exacerbated, rather than healed, this conflict.

A must read in light of current events
Revisado: 12-11-23
A must for anyone interested in understanding the complex history of the Israeli struggle against Jihad. It quotes from a plethora of resources, ranging from the Quran to up until recent news, and provides a convincing and coherent narrative of the Islamic roots of the conflict.

Historia
Eastern Europe has long been thought of as the "Other Europe", a region rife with political upheaval, shifting national borders, an astonishing variety of ethnic diversity, and relative isolation from the centers of power in the West. It has also been, and continues to be, pivotal in the course of world events. A History of Eastern Europe offers a sweeping 1,000-year tour with a particular focus on the region's modern history.

A comprehensive overview
Revisado: 02-02-23
A great course indeed, apart from the following two issues:
1. The coverage of the Holocaust was lacking, swiping some of the horrific war crimes committed in the areas under the rug.
2. Not enough coverage was given to Romania and Moldova, two of the more cryptic countries in Eastern Europe.

Complete but repetitive

This gigantic summary of the enlightenment is well researched and encompasses numerous topics. It is however quite repetitive (it seems like the word ‘despotism’ has to appear every 5 sentences).

Historia
More than anyone before him - more than Beethoven, Byron, even the preternatural Paganini - it was Franz Liszt who created one of the most enduring archetypes of the Romantic era: that of the artist "who walks with God and brings down fire from heaven in order to kindle the hearts of humankind." For every lover of music, Liszt remains someone you must understand, and this eight-lecture series is an ideal place to begin your acquaintance with both the man and his music.
