The droning on about daddy being a ambulance chaser and who went fishing with who when they were all growing up together in the small big town of Biloxi is like a sedative. I just can't get through the beginning- maybe it all comes together later but I'm not sure I can get there.

The story is about a group of people who survive a major storm inside a shelter and then immediately begin a gruesome slaughtering of each other. When the lights go out and they instantly panic and beat/trample each other. It’s not entertaining. It’s a recount of people who have plenty of supplies and comforts but don’t even try to work together- they instead choose to slaughter and chop and torture each other. Only two people out of hundreds try to find help - everyone else just focuses on killing other groups. it’s brutal and not a fun listen. I’m 3 hours into it -not for me.

Really enjoyed this book. Was hesitant to download it, but so glad I did. The narrator was excellent, the story kept moving along, and you feel like you are on the journey with the main character. If you like a mystery without gore and over-the-top violence, this is for you. Very well done.

The new narrator is not a good fit. She changed the character's personalities with how she read the story. It's a major disconnection. The first two books are so well written and each character adds a layer to how it unfolds. The series is intriguing and humorous- a delightful read. I was very excited about the third book but had to return it. I can’t rate the story because I couldn't bear listening to it.

I'm halfway through, and not sure I can finish. This is NOT historical fiction, it's a love story set in the 1940s told by the main character in 2019. The supporting character is dating a narcissist and it's hard to listen to him groom her. I like historical fiction because you learn so much about history in an entertaining way. This is not that. This is a story about different types of love and abuse.

This book is eye opening, the details bring to life the reality of these horrific years. It’s so well written and narrated that you genuinely feel like you are part of the story. The research and accuracy make it undisputed and you will finish in a jumble of tears, a mix of elation for those who survived and deep sadness for all the lives that were lost.
