Historia
In her famed TED talk, Sheryl Sandberg described how women unintentionally hold themselves back in their careers. Her talk, which has been viewed more than eleven million times, encouraged women to “sit at the table,” seek challenges, take risks, and pursue their goals with gusto.

Great message with data to back it up
Revisado: 05-23-20
I loved the message and the personal stories from the author’s personal experiences. Her encouragement will stick with me - in a good way.
I liked the narration, but I found the recording to be metallic. When the actor read the first few lines, I actually thought it was a screen reader and not a human voice!
Thanks to Sheryl and Elisa for the experience.

Edge of my seat
Revisado: 04-30-16
This is a book with strong characters - and the women are just as strong as the men. I like that!
It was a bit graphic sexually for my taste, but the narrator impressed me with reading all parts, including the sex scenes, extraordinarily well. Each character had a unique voice - amazing!
My only complaint about the story was that poor Faith has more lives than a cat. Otherwise, the story is complex, compelling and masterfully woven.
My children will be thankful that I have finished the book. I have been stealing away to catch a listen too often!

Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Slow start, but strong story with a powerful female protagonist
Revisado: 02-24-16
I struggled through the first two hours of the story, but it gradually improved from there and eventually became worth the wait. It also took me quite some time to warm up to the performance, but I grew to appreciate the actor and his many characters.

Historia
Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will. Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father.

Couldn't put it down AND terrific performance
Revisado: 01-10-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I already shared it with my sister using OneBook.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Megan died, the performance was gut wrenching and very real. Kudos to MacLeod Andrews.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Again, Megan's death was very moving. But the book caught my attention straight from the start, when Steelheart attacks a bank in which the main character and his father are trying to get a loan. Lots of edge-of-the-seat tension in this book.
Any additional comments?
I love the quirk that Brandon Sanderson built into the main character, David. David loves using metaphors but can't quite seem to get them right. It is charming.

Effective way to learn Arabic
Revisado: 03-13-15
Any additional comments?
This approach for learning a language is very effective. There is lots of repetition, help with pronunciation, and practical, daily uses of the language. I take a weekly in-person Arabic class, which has me focused on grammar rules and which makes me unable to produce the language due to the complexity of the grammar rules, This audio book has enabled me to actually produce the spoken language. If you are a stickler for grammar details, using just this audio book might stress you out since you might not understand some of the finer details. But if you are willing to learn the grammar a bit organically (or if you pair the book with a class as I do), you'll do great. I highly recommend it.

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast.

Wonderful performance! Gripping story!
Revisado: 06-05-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Clean Sweep to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but Renee Raudman's voice, accent, and powerful presence locked me into the story from the start.
What did you like best about this story?
As I listened, I kept thinking that Dina is the kind of woman that I'd like my 5-year-old daughter to grow into: fearless, powerful, confident, and with strong judgment. She knows that she doesn't need a man to protect her from the bogeyman! She is decisive, graceful, gracious, and nuanced.
Another thing I liked is the fact that the fantasy and magic seem very real, not silly and far fetched like some novels. When Dina shopped at Costco and ran into a scary supernatural being there, I was favorably impressed by the mix of the magical and the mundane.
What about Renee Raudman’s performance did you like?
LOVED Renee's performance: she pulls off Southern Belle perfectly while creating colorful characters all around. Her voice seems a little older than I imagine Dina to be, but no matter -- she gives a powerful performance.
Any additional comments?
Every time I stopped listening, I couldn't wait to dive back in -- the sign of a wonderful read. Thank you, authors and actor!
