Historia
Nola Trenholm may not be psychic herself, but she’s spent enough time around people who are to know when ghosts are present, and there are definitely a few lingering spirits in her recently purchased Creole cottage in New Orleans. Something, or someone, is keeping them tethered to this world. And not all of them are benign. But with the sudden return of Sunny Ryan, Beau Ryan’s long-lost sister, Nola has plenty to distract her from her ghostly housemates.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

I couldn’t deal with the details of this book. I gave it a try but it just pains me to hear what the men went through. It’s a story that should be told but I can’t handle it.

Historia
This now classic book revealed Flannery O’Connor as one of the most original and provocative writers to emerge from the South. Her apocalyptic vision of life is expressed through grotesque, often comic situations in which the principal character faces a problem of salvation: the grandmother, in the title story, confronting the murderous Misfit; a neglected four-year-old boy looking for the Kingdom of Christ in the fast-flowing waters of the river; General Sash, about to meet the final enemy.

Don't waste your time
Revisado: 01-23-17
I came across a list of books with one title per decade of a woman's life that she should read. A Good Man is Hard To Find was recommended for a woman in her 60's and the only thing I can think to say is:
At this age, who needs more waste matter in their life. I could only get through 2 or 3 stories in the book. They are sad, cynical and morbid. I need to find that list again and check out the author.

Few writers capture the complexities, pain, and joy of relationships - between friends, family members, husbands and wives, or lovers - as beloved New York Times best-selling author Dorothea Benton Frank. In this charming, evocative, soul-touching novel, she once again takes us deep into the heart of the magical Lowcountry, where three amazing middle-aged women are bonded by another amazing woman's death.

Thought I was going to be able to relate
Revisado: 06-21-15
I was disappointed with this book. It took me 17 chapters to get into the story. I don't enjoy all the "she said, he said". The last few chapters were the best but felt the storyline was lacking. Sorry.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Historia
Now a major motion picture directed by Stephen Frears ( The Queen, High Fidelity) and starring Judi Dench ( Skyfall, Notes on a Scandal) and Steve Coogan ( The Trip, Hamlet 2): the heartbreaking true story of an Irishwoman and the secret she kept for 50 years. When she became pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena Lee was sent to a convent to be looked after as a "fallen woman". Then the nuns took her baby from her and sold him, like thousands of others, to America for adoption. Fifty years later, Philomena decided to find him.

TITLE IS MISLEADING
Revisado: 11-13-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I was expecting a different story from the one that was told. I thought we would learn about Philomenas' life in her search for her son. Instead, we learn about her sons life being gay and the aids epidemic of the 80's. It was ok just not what I expected.
What about John Curless’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed John Curlee's performance of the book. If he hadn't been so good, I doubt I would have finished the book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I've found I always enjoy the book more than the movie.
